Oh, Japan. Microsoft clearly knows that they're in need of a good sales boost, and the upcoming release of Kinect is going to be their next hurdle. It's already known that Kinect is going to be their biggest launch ever, so what should they do to promote excitement for such a revolutionary concept?
Take 15 seconds, an embrace the magic:
So, as you can tell, we have a dramatic display of humanity which really brings out the duality of human nature. But in all seriousness, I have no idea what just happened, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
There are plenty of ways to show excitement on how controller-less gaming will change things, and this is certainly one of the roads anyone could take to demonstrate it. Granted, it might not be the road most of us would have selected -- but perhaps overseas this commercial is more relevant, and perhaps makes more sense. In the land where Arnold Schwarzenegger endorses food while wearing a funny hat, anything is possible.
If you're excited as the people in the video, you'll be interested to know that the Kinect device will be $149, and it's less than a month until product will be on shelves near you (and Japan, evidently). The launch date is set at November 4th in North America and November 20th in Japan. With the amount of money Microsoft has put into it, they'll be hoping it generates a tad more revenue than, say, Halo: Reach did.
What do you think, Ranters? Does this commercial entice you to purchase Kinect? How do you think Japanese consumers will react to the commercial, if they react at all? Are the actors in the commercials going to win any Oscar nominations based on the heart-rending performances? Only time will tell, but post your thoughts below.
