Starting this coming Monday about 20,000 gamers will be able to get their hands on the Killzone 3 beta. Currently, there are a couple thousand gamers participating in the first rollout of the beta and many are pointing out several improvements made to ensure a tighter overall experience. One beta member was even so kind as to record one of his beta sessions and give us a brief walkthrough.
Gushing over the beautiful graphics aside, Killzone 3’s multiplayer looks a lot like its predecessor’s. Before jumping in, gamers will be able to pick from an array of careers that will dictate their starting weapon and added abilities. Highlighted in the video is the Engineer class, which allows you to repair various items including ammo boxes around the map and the Tactician class, which is a bit lighter on its feet. Briefly in the video, the beta player is seen being attacked by an opponent in the Saboteur career whose primary ability is to fake out enemies by appearing as a friendly. Currently there is no word on what abilities will be available for each career and how many careers there are.
Inclusion of 3D aside, Killzone 3 looks like an amazing aesthetic experience. The visuals, as was the case with the previous game, are top notch. Many might not be heading into the game expecting much out of the multiplayer, but I found a lot to enjoy in the previous game’s version. There were a few problems mainly having to do with an absurd amount of controller lag, but when you got into a groove it becomes a great change of pace to your traditional FPS.
Guerilla Games wants to ensure that those who found problems with the second game are hit with a variety of new play options, as clearly indicated by the inclusion of the jetpack mechanic. If you were one of the lucky ones to jump on the XMB theme for the game and are getting into the beta, it starts this Monday. Enjoy.
What do you think of the beta footage for Killzone 3? Are you disappointed it looks so much like the second game or was that what you were hoping for just with finer tuned mechanics?
