Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game has revealed a trailer that takes a closer look at the eponymous Killer Klowns. The trailer follows a previous clip that showed off the AI-controled lackeys of the Killer Klowns.

Based on the cult classic horror Killer Klowns From Outer Space released in 1988, the game is set to follow in the footsteps of other popular horror-based asymmetrical games such as Dead by Daylight, which has done very well by reviving classic horror icons of the ‘80s. The game will require players to work together to save themselves from the Killer Klowns when playing as a citizen of Crescent Cove, or play as a team of Killer Klowns equipped with a wide range of abilities and clown-centric weapons.

This latest trailer for Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game takes a closer look at those Klowns and their weapons. While the clip doesn’t go into detail about how each Klown will play, the trailer does show off the detailed and grotesque character models supposedly in their idle animations. The Klowns also have titles such as “tank” and “scout” that imply their respective gameplay style. Set to cackling laughter and metal, the short clip is nightmarish and also helps to set the tone; a mixture of crazy carnival antics and unnerving horror making the Killer Klowns game similar to the movie. The Klowns all have realistic skin textures juxtaposed by their outlandish and toy-like weapons.

As of last August, players can sign up for the Killer Klowns from Outer Space beta, which will give them a chance to see these Klowns, 3v7 format and inclusion of "respawn systems, PvPvE, and dynamic objectives" in action. One of the most intriguing aspects of the game is the 3v7 format. While Dead by Daylight and Friday the 13th feature just one monster per game, the Klowns will perhaps have a bit of an advantage. Considering that Dead by Daylight has been the dominant force in the genre ever since its release, it will be interesting to see if Killer Klowns’ take on the genre will win fans over.

While some believe that Killer Klowns is an odd choice for a game adaptation, it could also be seen as a boon: there is a pre-existing market for the asymmetrical horror genre, and with the change in formula, Killer Klowns should serve as somewhat of a palette cleanser. Additionally, fans of the original film will finally have some more ways to interact with the IP by playing the game. Whether the game will live up to the cult classic status, only time will tell.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game is scheduled to release for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in early 2023.
