Killer Instinct is one of the most beloved fighting game franchises of all time, but unfortunately suffered an extremely long hiatus. After years without a new release, Microsoft finally revived the classic fighter as a launch title for the Xbox One, with plans of building on the game with DLC "seasons" wherein a handful of new characters and features will be added to the roster each year.

This unique approach to DLC has kept the Killer Instinct online community active ever since the game's launch a couple of years ago, with no signs of slowing down. The season 2 DLC for Killer Instinct added a number of fan favorite characters to the reboot, including Riptor and TJ Combo, and season 3 is looking to add even more classic KI fighters to the mix.

As announced today by community manager Rukari Austin, Kim Wu, last seen in Killer Instinct Gold on Nintendo 64 (or in Rare Replay on Xbox One), will be joining the fight as a part of the game's Season 3 DLC content. The developers will be looking for fan input in how they handle Kim Wu, as explained by Rukari in a forum post:

"If we were to do Season 3 of Killer Instinct, we would definitely have Kim Wu return. Well guess what, we’re doing Season 3. Tell us your thoughts about Kim Wu."

There is no ETA on when fans can expect Kim Wu to be added to the game, but Season 3 of Killer Instinct is expected to kick off in March of 2016. Besides Wu, Rash from Battletoads is another fighter confirmed for the game's third season, potentially hinting that the third season will have more guest characters as opposed to new versions of classic KI fighters.

Killer Instinct Gold - Kim Wu

While the game was initially criticized for a general lack of content at launch, the rebooted Killer Instinct has grown tremendously since then thanks to two seasons worth of DLC content, with even more on the way next year. This support for the game is preferable to waiting years for a full-fledged sequel, as it ensures that fans of the game consistently have new content to explore and new fighters to master.

Microsoft is hoping to entice even more players to join in on the Killer Instinct battle, as evidenced by the appealing guest character addition of Rash from Battletoads. Another way they are accomplishing this is by expanding the game's potential audience, with Killer Instinct coming to PC at a later date, with cross-play support between PC and Xbox One.
