On January 4, New Japan Pro Wrestling hosted its annual Wrestle Kingdom event at the Tokyo Dome. One of the biggest matches on the card was between Bullet Club member Kenny Omega and legendary wrestler Chris Jericho, with video game enthusiast Omega entering the ring as Osiris from Destiny 2's Curse of Osiris expansion.

Omega's Destiny 2 cosplay is rather impressive. Not only did Omega make his way to the ring decked out in Osiris's armor, but he also entered the match with a Vigilance Wing gun in tow. Even though the match was No Disqualification, Omega didn't use any of his cosplay props on Jericho, though the bout did include some brutal chair and table spots.

Wrestler Cosplays as New Destiny 2 Character - Kenny Omega Vigilance Wing Osiris

Omega's Osiris cosplay looks great, but choosing to represent Destiny 2 seems like a risky move at this point in time. After all, Destiny 2 and Bungie are currently in hot water with fans, in large part due to the game's microtransaction storefront the Eververse, which some have described as predatory. The Eververse isn't the only reason why Destiny 2 has been heavily criticized these past couple of months, however.

Besides the Eververse controversy, Destiny 2 has also been criticized for utilizing XP and Glimmer farming caps without telling players. Furthermore, the Curse of Osiris expansion initially locked vanilla Destiny 2 owners out of content they previously had access to, which caused such an uproar that Bungie had to backpedal on that particular decision.

Bungie has said that it has a "lot to talk about" with fans regarding Destiny 2 in 2018. Maybe the company will be able to turn around the game's recent misfortunes, but that remains to be seen. In the meantime, it's clear that despite its many detractors, Destiny 2 still has a large following of dedicated fans, which apparently includes professional wrestling superstar Kenny Omega.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
