During the PS5 game reveal event, players had the opportunity to see many new and exciting game announcements. Everything from new sequels, like the horrifying Resident Evil 8, to new original games exclusive to the PlayStation 5 console. One game in particular that stood out during the presentation was Kena: Bridge of Spirits, an action-adventure game by Ember Lab that seems to take inspiration from titles like The Legend of Zelda and Pikmin.

If players have never heard of Ember Lab before, there's a reason for that. Kena: Bridge of Spirits will be the first game the studio has ever developed. Founded by brothers Mike and Josh Grier back in 2009, Ember Lab was originally an animation studio. In the past, Ember Lab has worked on many commercials and animated shorts for companies like Coke and the MLB. In the realm of gaming, Ember Lab received high praise in 2016 for a Majora's Mask fan film titled Terrible Fate.

Now looking at the reveal trailer for Kena: Bridge of Spirits, it seems that Terrible Fate may have helped to inspire Ember Lab. In this trailer, players can see the main character, Kena, exploring a variety of different areas, wielding an assortment of spells and abilities, and saving some small, poofy sprites along the way.

These spirits, called the Rot, accompany Kena on her journey and seem like helpful companions who assist with combat and puzzles, not unlike Pikmin. Considering how adorable these little spirits are, Nintendo could face some major competition if the Pikmin 3 port rumors are to be believed.

Ember Lab is describing Kena: Bridge of Spirits as a "story-driven action adventure set in a charming world rich with exploration and fast-paced combat." Players will be able to collect Rot for their party, allowing them to gain access to more powerful abilities and make discoveries within the world. If it can deliver on these promises, Kena: Bridge of Spirits has all of the ingredients necessary to make the Legend of Zelda and Pikmin sandwich players never knew they needed.

Many players were captivated by the game's first showing. The trailer currently sits at over 15,000 likes on YouTube with only 151 dislikes. Most of the comments on the video's page praised the art style, saying it looks like an interactive Disney or Studio Ghibli movie. While a release date wasn't announced, it seems that plenty of players will be keeping their ears to the ground to find out more about this title.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits has no confirmed release date and is a PS5 console exclusive.
