Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a visually stunning game that takes the player through a wholesome, heartwarming story about a plucky, explorative spirit guide known as Kena. With a combat system, a trusty sidekick, and a lot of content to get through, players will want to make sure that Kena is in the best possible shape she can be.

While the ability system in Kena: Bridge of Spirits isn't as populated as a lot of other modern games, or even older titles like Skyrim's abilities, it is still worth it to players to ensure they have the best abilities as they progress through the game.

7 Enter The Fray: Battle With Maximum Courage

Courage allows the player to have Kena use her Rot abilities, which is where the sidekick Rot helps Kena against her foes. By unlocking the Enter the Fray ability, Kena will enter a battle with maximum Courage, allowing her to use these types of abilities straight away.

This ability is especially useful against enemies that can be exploited by Rot abilities that target their weaknesses; a bit like how Pokemon strengths and weaknesses work. It can also help to immobilize groups of enemies when overwhelmed, making it one of the best abilities in the game.

6 Rot Hammer: A Great Crowd Control Move

Rot Hammer is an incredibly useful ability that can be used for either offensive or defensive maneuvers when in a situation involving groups of enemies against Kena.

The ability requires Courage as it is a Rot ability, and deals large amounts of damage to multiple enemies. There's also a long-range homing shot that is capable of targeting aerial enemies. Rot Hammer knocks bosses off balance and cancels their attacks. It's a highly versatile ability and can help players out massively when in situations where they look out favored.

5 Parry Courage: For The Skilled Combatants

The melee combat in Kena: Bridge of Spirits is quite simple, but that doesn't mean that it is easy to be good at. Parrying and blocking are the two ways that the player avoids sustaining damage, and the better the players are at parrying, the better players will have a time of it in combat situations.

Players that are good at parrying will benefit heavily from the Parry Courage ability; which grants a Rot Action every time the player successfully parries an attack. This ability combined with other Courage-based abilities will give players the edge over even the toughest enemies. Parrying is a staple in all of the best melee combats, and players with experience with melee games shouldn't find Kena's combat too difficult.

4 Focus: For Sniping Enemies From A Distance

While a lot of the combat situations can be handled using melee, the player will also find that using Kena's Spirit Bow is a great way of mixing up the combat and thinning the herd when fighting against groups of enemies.

The Focus ability slows down time when aiming with the Spirit Bow, allowing the player to accurately snipe enemies from afar and down a few of them before being forced into a melee combat situation. This is also very useful against bosses for chipping away at their health and maintaining distance. Players who love sniping will enjoy this ability.

3 Sprint Attack Heavy: Clearing Groups And Timed Challenges

The Sprint Attack Heavy ability will require the player to have unlocked the Sprint Attack Light ability, so while it isn't exactly an early-game ability it is definitely worth the player unlocking as soon as possible.

The Sprint Attack Heavy ability allows Kena to run at a group of enemies and attack them simultaneously, making it an effective opener and crowd control move. It's also useful for the Cursed Chest timed challenges so is well worth being unlocked for players who want to progress quicker; a bit like the Ocarina of Time challenges.

2 Shield Health +: For Those Who Prefer Blocking Over Dodging

While dodging and parrying is a great way for players to get the edge in combat situations, some players, particularly newer ones may wish just to stick with the bread-and-butter blocking mechanic. If that's the case, those players should unlock the Shield Health + ability.

The Shield Health + ability allows Kena to block some bosses' attacks, which can be incredibly useful particularly in the middle and late-game when bosses get more difficult. Players that rely on blocking will definitely benefit from this ability, but they should still implement parrying and dodging whenever possible, no matter how much of a strong shield the player has.

1 Increased Quiver: For The Bow Users

Archers rely on arrows in the game, so the more arrows the player has, the better. The Increased Quiver ability on Kena: Bridge of Spirits does exactly what it says on the tin; giving more arrows for the player to use.

For those players who rely on the Spirit Bow; the Increased Quiver ability isn't just helpful; it's pretty much mandatory. Arrows can run out much quicker than players expect during combat situations, so any extra arrows the player can get will certainly help. Increased Quiver also offers players better sustain for fights that go on for longer than anticipated.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits was released on August 24, 2021, and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
