The Matrix and John Wick are both action-packed franchises that elevated the genre to new levels. Coincidentally, they're both led by the same actor, Keanu Reeves. This inevitably leads to the question of who would win in a fight: Neo, the Kung Fu-knowing reality bender, or John Wick, master assassin? The debate has now been settled forever by the only person who could possibly know the truth: Reeves himself.
Speaking about Bill & Ted Face the Music co-star Alex Winter on a recent episode of The Late Show, Reeves was asked who he thought would win by host Stephen Colbert. Slapping his hands together because he's clearly prepared for this question, Keanu replied "well number 1, they wouldn't fight." Colbert pressed the actor for a more definitive answer, suggesting "what if Neo accidentally killed John Wick's dog?" But Reeves held firm replying "maybe John Wick would help Thomas Anderson out in the real world, against the machines" and lo, a potential crossover was born.
The full interview has Alex and Keanu talking about how they met at the audition for Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and became friends before being cast in the iconic roles as well as promoting the upcoming long awaited sequel Bill & Ted Face the Music. When asked if they hang out together in the real world, both Reeves and Winter confirmed they do and mention people's reactions when they're seen together, "Bill and Ted bring smiles to the world" Reeves exclaimed. Talking about the long wait between the previous film, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey released in 1991, and the upcoming sequel, Reeves credited the swell of fan support for convincing execs that there was still an audience for the time traveling friends.
At the end of the interview Stephen Colbert mentions that Keanu Reeves is in Berlin shooting the upcoming revival of The Matrix franchise which is expected to premiere in April 2022. And next year John Wick: Chapters 4 and 5 will be taking a leaf out of the The Matrix sequels by shooting back to back with Chapter 4 also being released in 2022 so though they'll never really fight, Neo and John will least go toe to toe at the box office.
The Matrix 4 is expected to release on April 1st 2022 and John Wick: Chapter 4 expected the same year.
