Karen Gillan has confirmed that her Guardians of the Galaxy character, Nebula, will be appearing in Thor: Love and Thunder. The actress has been quarantining in a hotel in Sydney, where Thor: Love and Thunder will be filming, leading many fans to assume she will be appearing in the movie.

While bored in quarantine, Karen Gillan took part in an Instagram story trend where she answered assumptions about herself. One user suggested that the Scottish actress was wearing a wig in "preparation" (for her appearance in the movie), to which she answered, "I'm not, this is the real deal! This is my hair, I cut it the other day in preparation for Nebula, so that we don't have to like get so much hair into the bald cap, because I have so much hair it's unbelievable, it's just so thick." This statement confirmed that she was indeed quarantining in Sydney to play Nebula in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Karen Gillan's first appearance in the Marvel universe as Nebula was in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, and she famously shaved her entire head for the role. She reprised her role as Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. At the end of Endgame, Nebula flew off into space with Thor and the rest of the Guardians. Thor: Love and Thunder picks up some time after that moment.

Karen Gillan isn't the only Guardians of the Galaxy cast member to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder, with Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Sean Gunn, and Pom Klementieff also quarantining in Sydney for the film. These cast members are joined in the film by Chris Hemsworth returning as Thor and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, who was last seen leading Asgardians as they started again on Earth.

Natalie Portman will be returning as Jane Foster, and it has been confirmed that the film will see her take up the powers of Thor as seen in the Mighty Thor comics. Christian Bale will be joining the film as villain Gorr the God Butcher, while Matt Damon landing in Sydney has led to rumors that he will be appearing in the film after his cameo in Thor: Ragnarok.

Audiences will have to wait and see how all of these characters and storylines come together. Filming on most Marvel productions was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and production on Thor: Love and Thunder is only just beginning. In the meantime, Marvel fans can look forward to the release of many Marvel films and TV series during 2021.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released in theatres May 6, 2022.
