Kaguya-sama: Love Is War is definitely among one of the most popular rom-com series around. The name truly suggests what the series entails, featuring a love war between the main characters; Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya.

These love-smitten characters constantly refuse to confess their love for each other. Instead, they resolve to make the other person confess their feelings by using a bunch of crazy antics and strategies. Season 3 of this comedy-filled series is scheduled for release on April 8, so a recap of the events that occurred in the previous seasons is essential to remind fans of crucial details in the show.

Chika - The Harbinger Of Chaos

Season 1 of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War revealed the background of the two characters, Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane. Miyuki, a brilliant high schooler, is the student council president, who admires and loves Kaguya, but does a good job hiding it beneath his mock face. Despite Kaguya's constant efforts to badger him into a corner using her wealth, Miyuki resists all his efforts through his own devised strategies. On the other hand, Kaguya Shinomiya is from an affluent and influential family, which she constantly uses in her schemes to elicit a love confession from Miyuki. Despite their constant love battles, Kaguya and Miyuki share a number of similarities. Ironically, beneath their love war façade, both characters try to comfort and support each other during trying moments.

Kaguya-sama also stars the air-headed Chika Fugiwara, an innocent-looking supporting character. She is central to the story's plot, and undoubtedly, without her, the Miyuki-Kaguya love feud may not be as interesting. Chika is the harbinger of chaos in the series, and her scheme helps in making the show interesting and more enjoyable. Her neutrality towards the love war makes the battle even more entertaining; she is unpredictable and can't even be bribed, leveling the playing field for the love war. The funniest thing about Chika is that she isn't even aware of the love battle between the two leading characters. Innocently, she suggests games & quizzes and orchestrates occasions that make the Kaguya and Miyuki devise strategies to draw out a confession from the other.

Miyuki's Lead In The Love War

Kaguya and Shirogane Close Together

Season 2 of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War brought a new perspective to the series, and Miyuki appears to be the center of attention. It starts with the conclusion of the present student council term. Surprisingly, Kaguya wants Miyuki to secure his old position as the student council president because it was the main connecting point between the two of them. Once the campaign kicks off, Miyuki selects Kaguya as his speechwriter as they both prepare for the election. On the other hand, Chika almost supported the opposing party led by Miko Iino, a first-year who wanted to claim the position of the Student Council President because Miyuki and Yu annoyed her. However, she changes her decision and supports Miyuki’s campaign.

So from the events in season 2, it appears that Miyuki is leading in the love war, as Kaguya tirelessly supports Miyuki in his presidential campaign. Season 2 also features Miyuki's upcoming birthday. Kaguya tries to figure out Miyuki's birthday date by using horoscopes, but it doesn't work out. However, his birthday is revealed later, and after a series of thrilling and overwhelming events that burdens Kaguya, she ends up giving Miyuki a gift and a large cake. Again season 2 ends without a winner of the love feud.

As the third season of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War starts on April 8, it may portray the usual Miyuki-Kaguya feud. However, it is also possible that one of the characters may win the love battle. Side stories featuring Chika Fugiwara and Ishigami Yu may also impact the main storyline in several ways. Presently, the only barrier preventing Miyuki and Kaguya’s love confession is their pride and Chika’s absent-mindedness. Hopefully, season 3 will smoothen out these shortcomings.

Kaguya-sama: Love Is War is available to watch now on Crunchyroll.
