Justin Roiland was dropped from Hulu's Solar Opposites and Koala Man. Hulu announced they were cutting ties with Roiland the day after he was dropped from Rick and Morty due to the domestic violence charge against him.
Hulu's Solar Opposites centers on a family of aliens forced to make Earth their home after a crash landing on the planet. Koala Man takes place in an alternate universe and follows Kevin Williams, who sets out to fight evildoers as the eponymous superhero despite possessing no superpowers.
Roiland co-created Solar Opposites with Mike McMahan. He also provided the voice for characters like Korvo and served as an executive producer. Though he did not create Koala Man, he was an executive producer and guest star. However, Hulu announced the end of its partnership with Roiland in a statement stating, "We have ended our association with Justin Roiland." Disney-owned 20th Television Animation, which produces Solar Opposites and Koala Man, is also dropping Roiland and his overall deal at the company.
Like Rick and Morty at Adult Swim, Solar Opposites and Koala Man will continue without Roiland's involvement in the writer's room or the recording booth. Roiland was "charged with one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit." The charges stem from a January 202 incident involving an unnamed woman Roiland was dating. Roiland has pled not guilty to the charges and is scheduled to return to court in April for another hearing.
There were questions about what Roiland's legal troubles meant for Ricky and Morty, and now fans know the answer. While the fate of Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites, and Koala Man should be the least of everyone's concerns in a case as serious as Roiland's, fans are understandably relieved Solar Opposites, Koala Man, and Rick and Morty can continue without him.
Still, others will find it difficult to continue watching the shows after the revelations about Roiland. This is respectable, but with Hulu opting to drop Roiland and continue Solar Opposites and Koala Man, it's a choice every fan can make for themselves.
