Excitement for Zack Snyder's Justice League grows more and more as we get closer to the HBO Max release date. Fans have already been treated to a variety of sneak peeks, from a widely-raved, revamped trailer to exclusive looks at major characters like Darkseid and The Joker (Jared Leto). Yet, despite these teases, Snyder assures fans that the best is still yet to come.

In an interview with Vanity Fair's Anthony Breznican, Snyder revealed that there is a very big surprise for DC fans in the last scene of his film. The new ending, which was reshot specifically for the director's cut, will feature a superhero cameo that Breznican says will surely "blow hardcore fans' minds."

Immediately after news of this was released, fans took to social media to share their thoughts on who the mystery superhero could possibly be. The first name to trend on Twitter was Green Lantern, with fans suspecting that Ryan Reynolds could be reprising his role as Hal Jordan. The theory seemed even more plausible because fans had previously spotted Green Lantern's symbol on merchandise specifically for Zack Snyder's Justice League, which was being sold as part of a campaign to celebrate the fan-driven film. Unfortunately for fans, Reynolds confirmed shortly after that he will not return as Green Lantern in Justice League, despite being flattered by the idea. The Deadpool actor said that his suit "stays in the closet" for now, but he also noted that there's always a possibility it could be "another GL"; that is, another member of the Green Lantern Corps.

If not Green Lantern, some people have been speculating that the surprise cameo could be of a superhero whose film is currently in the works but has not yet been seen on screen. Fans have put forth Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam as a suggestion, which could be possible considering that the film will start production this coming April. The theory goes that Johnson could have filmed the secret scene with Snyder beforehand, as a sort of tie-in to the Black Adam production that will soon commence.

Another theory suggests an old iteration of one of the superheroes will be making a surprise appearance. After Wonder Woman 1984 featured Lynda Carter, who portrayed the DC heroine in the '70s television series, in its final scene, it wouldn't be too far of a stretch to think Snyder could do the same with another character, like Michael Keaton's Batman or Alicia Silverstone's Batgirl.

That said, while such a cameo would still thrill fans, it does seem like it would have less of a mind-blowing factor than a cameo from a "newer-age" DC character. At this point, fans will just have to wait patiently for the Snyder cut to drop to figure out what's waiting for them at the end of the film.

Zack Snyder's Justice League is set to release on HBO Max on March 18, 2021.
