In a surprising announcement given the current state of television production, HBO announced a partnership with J.J. Abrams' production company Bad Robot. Bad Robot will be producing three shows for the upcoming streaming service HBO Max. One of those titles will be based on the popular comic Justice League Dark.

Justice League Dark is a comic series based on the magical and mysterious aspects of the DC Comics universe. It's a relatively young series, launching in 2011, but is already a popular and successful mainstay for DC. Members of the Justice League Dark team have included John Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, Swamp Thing, and many more.

Details about the Justice League Dark television show are scant, beyond that it'll be an hour-long drama if it makes it to series. HBO says that more details about the DC Comics-based television show will be revealed soon. Though with the cancellation of major conventions like SDCC, soon may be longer than expected.

What's especially interesting about the Justice League Dark announcement is that it's coming directly to HBO Max. It's not being produced for DC Universe to be shown exclusively there or shared between. Justice League Dark is explicitly an HBO Max show. That could mean a lot of different things, but at the very least it isn't great news for the future of DC Universe.

Justice League Dark has no announced release window.
