Avalanche Studios confirms in a recent interview that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of open world action game Just Cause 3 will have differing resolutions.

In a recent interview, Just Cause 3 game director Roland Lesterlin confirmed that the PlayStation 4 version will come in at a 1080p resolution while the Xbox One version runs at 900p. The main reason for the resolution disparity comes from the intense physics and screen space effects at work under the hood in the game and the different hardware that is available to utilize on each console.

While the technical details may disappoint Xbox One fans, Lesterlin specified that the game, regardless of platform, will still have all the same content, effects, and explosions that fans have come to expect from the series. He's confident that players on all platforms will enjoy themselves while navigating the large open world and the resolution shouldn't make the game any less enjoyable.

“The game runs at 1080p on PS4 and 900p on Xbox One. We do so much with physics and screen space effects, that we are confident our players will thoroughly enjoy themselves no matter the platform they play the game on.”

Just Cause 3 Win An Island Competition

First party Xbox One games such as Halo 5: Guardians, Forza Motorsport 6, and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition have had little trouble coming in at 1080p resolution, unlike titles from third party developers which have struggled to match that effort. While Microsoft has stated in the past that they value frame rate over resolution, Just Cause 3 is another game in an increasingly growing list of third party titles that have had to sacrifice resolution in order to make sure the experience is smooth everywhere else.

The resolution debate has increased in intensity during this current console generation with many gamers placing a lot of stock in the importance of resolution, while others say the difference isn't noticeable at all. While gamers may disagree on this topic, there is no denying that technical differences between console versions is starting to become a PR problem for Microsoft. So far this generation, major releases like Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt have all come in with superior resolution on the PlayStation 4 as compared to Xbox One. The situation hasn't gone unnoticed by Microsoft who have taken matters into their own hands at times like stepping in to assist Blizzard to ensure the Xbox One version of Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition came in at 1080p resolution to match the PlayStation 4 version.

Does resolution matter to you in games, or is the difference between 900 and 1080 negligible that it doesn't matter? Let us know your thoughts below in the comments.
