An artist recreated Jurnee Smollett's Black Canary by giving her a different look that's based on her iconic costume from the comic books. Smollett's Black Canary had her DC Extended Universe live-action debut in the film Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

Smollett's character in the movie was a different and more unique take on the iconic DC Comics superhero. After losing her mother to the force, she decided to not use her power to help out the Gotham City Police Department (rightfully so), yet she always had empathy and went out of her way to help those who couldn't help themselves, which showed that she was always meant to be a hero.

Smollett's Black Canary was so iconic that she'll be getting her own project on HBO Max. Many are speculating if this will introduce Green Arrow, but right now nothing is known about the plot except that Smollett will once again be working with Misha Green, which is good news for fans because this is a great creative pairing. The two previously collaborated on HBO's Lovecraft Country, which was not renewed for a second, much to the disappointment of fans.

The artist who designed the recreation is known as @Datrintiart on Instagram. Fans who go to their page can see a variety of images and artwork that range from Marvel, DC, and properties such as Invincible, which was also initially a graphic novel/comic book before being turned into an animated series.

Datrinti also likes to design artwork for heroes who have yet to make their live-action debut in order to get fans excited for the upcoming projects. The heroes in question, for example, are Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight, a fan drawing of Michael B. Jordan as Superman/Val-Zod, Sasha Calle's Supergirl, and The Rock's Black Adam.

Datrinti also has a Patreon where fans of their work can go to show their support for the artist. Their goal is to continue to improve their artwork while also developing their own comic project, RIOT. For any fan of comic books, digital artwork, or recreations, definitely check out their work on Instagram and Patreon. There's something there to find for everybody.

Black Canary is currently in development at Warner Bros. and DC.
