Jurassic World: Dominion director Colin Trevorrow revealed that the science fiction adventure blockbuster has a little bit of Jason Bourne and James Bond in it. Trevorrow, who notably helmed the first film in the Jurassic World trilogy, wrote the upcoming sequel’s script with Pacific Rim: Uprising's Emily Carmichael.

Jurassic World 3 will see Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return to play Owen Grady and Claire Dearing. Franchise icons Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum are all reprising their iconic roles from the original Jurassic Park films. Trevorrow revealed that the film isn’t centered on a single protagonist but rather two parallel stories that will eventually intersect. The characters played by Dern, Neill, and Goldblum will reportedly be just as big a part of the movie as those played by Pratt and Howard.

While details on Jurassic World 3's plot have been kept under wraps, Trevorrow told Collider that the film was shot around the world and is one large globe-hopping adventure. "It's got a little bit of Bourne and Bond and a bit of a spy movie thrown into it too, ” said Trevorrow, while adding, "if it's not a great story, then we're wasting your time. So that to me is hopefully why people will show up." The sequel shot in the UK, British Columbia, and Malta, as well as one other major location that Trevorrow didn’t want to disclose just yet. The 44-year-old director-screenwriter described the film as a “spy movie, science thriller with dinosaurs.”

Jurassic World

Trevorrow previously indicated that the sixth installment in the Jurassic Park film series will wrap up the entire franchise. Universal announced that a five-minute teaser for the film will play exclusively before IMAX showings of F9. The teaser starts 65 million years before 1993's Jurassic Park and introduces several never-before-seen dinosaurs. Recent Jurassic World: Dominion photos revealed that feathered dinosaurs will also be in the film.

Dominion is the direct sequel to 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which was directed by J. A. Bayona (A Monster Calls). The film saw Pratt’s Grady return to the island of Isla Nublar and attempt to save a group of dinosaurs from extinction. However, their mission proved to be a ruse planned by a group of powerful people who really wanted to bring dinosaurs back to the mainland, resulting in the prehistoric creatures escaping into the world. The ensemble cast included Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, and Daniella Pineda. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, Fallen Kingdom earned over $1.3 billion worldwide, making it the third-highest-grossing film of 2018.

Jurassic World 3 wrapped principal photography last November and was notably the first major studio film to go back into production during the COVID-19 pandemic. Universal paid an extra $6-8 million on COVID safety protocols and a private medical facility was commissioned to manage production’s medical requirements. More than 40,000 COVID-19 tests were reportedly conducted, with .25% returning positive.

Jurassic World: Dominion is scheduled to premiere in theatres on June 10, 2022.
