The anticipation of Elden Ring fans as Summer Game Fest 2021 draws ever closer is palpable, and for good reason. There are many rumors and hints from somewhat credible sources that indicate the game could finally be showed again after over 700 days since its initial reveal. Surprisingly, aside from the potential Elden Ring reveal and a neat solar eclipse, June 10th also holds some significance for fans of the Elder Scrolls series. For those that don't know, The Elder Scrolls 6 was first revealed back at E3 2018 on June 10th. This means that this day will also be the three year anniversary since players have heard any news about that game as well.

To make things perfectly clear, there is no confirmation of either Elden Ring or The Elder Scrolls 6 being at Summer Game Fest 2021 on June 10th. This is just an observation that the currently circulating Elden Ring rumors and the anniversary of The Elder Scrolls 6 happen to line up. There are also some interesting parallels that fans might notice between the two games themselves that are worth looking into. Finally, this serves as a great chance to revisit the history of these games and the long years that patient fans have waited, especially if either of them actually do make an appearance.

Elden Ring - E3 2019

Elden Ring is the next title from the critically acclaimed developer FromSoftware. Players most likely know FromSoftware for it genre-defining Dark Souls franchise, but it is also responsible for Demon's SoulsBloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, as well as some other games that came before Demon's Souls like King's Field and even the Armored Core franchise. Fans first caught wind about the existence of Elden Ring when it was officially revealed at E3 2019, more specifically on June 9th.

Since that day, players have not seen a single official trailer or heard even a scrap of official news from either FromSoftware or Bandai Namco outside of a reassurance that the game has not been cancelled. Instead, diehard fans have been living off of fake Elden Ring lore they create themselves and old trailer leaks that seem like they were filmed on a 144p camera. Through all of this, the fan base has held onto hope, and now there are fairly substantial rumors that Elden Ring will be shown at Summer Game Fest 2021 on June 10th. Fans prepare to get their hopes up one last time, or to go hollow if it doesn't show.

The Elder Scrolls 6 - E3 2018

Showing some surprising parallels, The Elder Scrolls 6 is in a similar spot as Elden Ring. The sequel to 2011's equally impactful The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, players have been waiting a long time to see something new. Seven years after the release of Skyrim, E3 2018 finally brought players a The Elder Scrolls 6 trailer, and even though it was just a panning shot of a landscape with the game's title printed in large letters across the screen, it sent fans into a frenzy. Since then, excitement about the game has died down ever so slightly, but players are still desperate to hear more.

Just like Elden Ring, there has not been another official announcement or trailer revealing any more information about the game. This November will mark the 10 year anniversary of Skyrim, and June 10th will be the three year anniversary since the game was first revealed. While there's no way to know whether or not The Elder Scrolls 6 will show up at either Summer Game Fest 2021 or E3 this year, Bethesda and Microsoft are doing a joint showcase this year on June 13th, so there are many feeling hopeful.

Elden Ring and The Elder Scrolls 6

There is a lot players can find in common between these two games. Both are follow-ups to genre-defining games from highly respected developers, and both have also happened to be missing in action from major gaming events for two to three years. It does seem that The Elder Scrolls 6 fans are a bit more quiet in their resignation than Elden Ring fans are, but both still hold on hope for a game that is so exciting that not even years of silence have deterred them. Finally, both games are peculiarly still only confirmed for last generation consoles, with no word about PS5 or Xbox Series X versions being developed.

Unlike Elden RingThe Elder Scrolls 6 fans have no cause to reasonably expect that their game will be shown in the coming week. In a recent poll on the game's Subreddit, it was revealed (at the time of writing) that around 59% of the almost 1000 voters don't think there will be any showing, as they are instead expecting to hear news about Bethesda's upcoming game Starfield.

June 10th is a Big Day

Regardless of what happens, gamers aren't going to want to miss June 10th. It comes just one day after the two year anniversary of Elden Ring's reveal and exactly three years after the reveal of The Elder Scrolls 6. As if the heavens above were trying to portend the coming of one of these games, there will also be a solar eclipse on June 10th. During this astronomical event, the moon will blot out the center of the sun, leaving only a ring of fire for viewers to see.

Even if the unfortunate scenario arises that neither Elden Ring nor The Elder Scrolls 6 get any kind of spotlight at Summer Game Fest 2021, there will still likely be many other things worth tuning in for. For example, Hideo Kojima will be at Summer Game Fest this year, so that could lead to some interesting reveals. This is all ahead of E3 as well, which will no doubt bring a lot of exciting news about upcoming games and what the future holds for existing titles.
