YouTube and Twitch streamers have the ability to pull video games out of obscurity, sometimes years after release, and help titles become viral sensations overnight. Phasmophobia and Among Us are two games that experienced a surge in popularity thanks to streamers, to such a degree that Innersloth, the developers of Among Us, admitted to feeling burned out and overwhelmed by the sudden success. Another game to benefit from the spotlight of streamers has been Jump King: There Is a Smoking Hot Babe at the Top by Nexile.

Released in mid-2019 to very positive reviews on Steam, the platforming game with a comedic undertone has been dubbed by Nexile as “a tactical leaping adventure.” The title was immediately picked up by streamers, making Jump King go viral within months of release. The goal is of course to reach the top of the map, but that seemingly simple task is made more difficult by gravity. Similar to Getting Over It, the climbing game with the man in a pot, making the wrong move can lead to a hard fall and having to start over.

A number of creators, including well-known Twitch streamers like xQc, played the challenging and sometimes torturous game online. In response, a fan going by the name IntroCar created a new expansion to the game called Babe of Ascension. Unaffiliated with developer Nexile, IntroCar decided to pay homage to some of the content creators who helped propel Jump King into the spotlight. As streamer Mizkif was playing the game on Twitch, he came to a new area in Babe of Ascension that featured images of some of the game’s more prolific streamers. Although the Reddit post claims that it was Nexile who added the images, it was not.

The original Jump King includes two free expansions called New Babe+ and Ghost of the Babe. The fan-made expansion for Jump King is the first new content for the game in over a year and continues from the events of Ghost of the Babe, while introducing new gimmicks and challenges for players to enjoy. The developers have promoted IntroCar’s Babe of Ascension map on their social media and have expressed excitement about trying it out.

Based in Sweden, Nexile is a fairly new indie development studio of just four people who met in school, and Jump King is their first game release. Currently, they are working on Jump King Quest: A True Adventure of Challenges and Extreme Tension, a game that takes place in the same world but emphasizes immersion, exploration, and role-playing elements. The new title will allow people to join other players’ game worlds dynamically, meaning strangers and friends may appear in one another’s adventures.

Jump King is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
