Bandai Namco is bringing the anime world together in an all-new fighting game. Introducing Jump Force, a meeting of several major anime franchises including Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, and Death Note. Jump Force was revealed during Microsoft's E3 2018 press conference with a stunning debut trailer, teasing a clash of the most popular characters in anime and manga to ever grace the pages of Shonen Jump. Jump Force is planned for release in 2019.

The announcement trailer featured characters including Luffy of One Piece, Goku and Frieza of Dragon Ball Z, Naruto himself, and Light Yagami of Death Note. Each character was given enough screentime in the trailer to show off one of their iconic abilities: Goku goes Super Saiyan, Naruto uses Kage Bunshin no Jutsu, Luffy uses Gear 4, and Light hovers menacingly just out of reach. Alright, Light's abilities are probably more closely related to the Death Note, but avoiding confrontation is definitely a talent of his.

The trailer's premise features each anime's world colliding in a central location: New York City. The various stages shown in the trailer show crash sites as if the different anime shows crashed into Earth. Expect a very anime story to connect each anime's characters in very silly and over the top ways. How else will fans be able to solve which anime's protagonist is truly the strongest of them all?

Fans are already intensely speculating about what other characters and franchises might be included in Jump Force. The fours shown in the announcement trailer are all very modern popular series in the USA. Shonen Jump has dozens of other series to pull from if it pleases. But will it focus on what's popular in the west or mix in manga series that are only popular in Japan?

Other likely roster additions include characters from Bleach, Hunter x Hunter, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and even My Hero Academia. Popular Japanese manga including Haikyu!!!, Food Wars, and Gintama could also make the cut. Don't expect more than a handful of characters per franchise, however. In past Jump mash-up games, no more than two or three characters from each series seem to be added to the roster.

Jump Force will be a 3D fighter akin to Tekken, developed by Spike Chunksoft. Spike Chunsoft is known for other anime fighting games including the One Piece: Burning Blood and J-Stars Victory games. Expect more information at E3 or in the months to come.

Jump Force is planned for release in 2019 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
