So, when fan’s got wind of a movie set to come out, one that would tell the story of three of the show’s most popular characters, and their missing friend Yuta, the excitement was palpable. And the wait was truly worth it, as Jujutsu Kaisen 0 provides some of the best fights in the series to date, with the animation, and stakes, going far beyond what fans have seen in the anime thus far.

6 Yuta Vs Maki

Jujutsu Kaisen Maki Zen'in

To start things off, this low-stakes fight between the film’s protagonist Yuta and JJK icon Maki Zenin is a quick, sleek, and hilarious bout between two distinctly watchable characters. Throughout this sparring match we get fantastic character moments, such as Yuta’s determination to land a hit on Maki and Panda’s life-changing deduction that Maki may have a crush on Yuta, all combined with Mappa’s distinctive animation style.

The best aspect of this fight, and why it deserves a place on this list, is the fact that in Jujutsu Kaisen, fans rarely get to see grounded and somewhat realistic battles. In this fight there are no powers on show, just simple, badass weapon-to-weapon combat, with Maki utilizing her impressive acrobatic fighting technique.

5 Yuta & Toge Vs Cursed Spirit

Every iconic shonen fight needs a few elements; great animation, impressive fight choreography, memorable attacks, an epic soundtrack but most importantly, a fight needs to tell a story. Yuta and Toge’s battle against the Cursed Spirit in the mall does just that. In this fight we see Yuta grow, learning to trust Toge as a friend and teammate.

We also get glimpses of Yuta’s true power in this battle, as he takes on a powerful spirit one on one and manages to land a blow. Perhaps most importantly for JJK fans, this fight shows off Toge’s immense power, something we rarely see in the anime series. In one attack, the cursed-speech user crushes this horrifying spirit, showing fans the potential there is for him later in the series.

4 Panda & Toge Vs Geto

Jujutsu Kaisen Panda

A classic way to emphasize the power of antagonists is to show them wiping the floor with our heroes. And this battle between Panda, Toge, and the series villain Geto, is truly a sight to behold. While it doesn't last very long, watching Panda and Toge combine to take on such an impressive foe is an awe-inspiring sight.

Moreover, getting to see Panda’s more powerful form in full flight is not something we have seen since the show aired almost two years ago. On top of that, this is the first time we have seen the serious power of Geto, someone who has been lurking in the shadows of JJK since the show premiered. Fans also get a look at his twisted sense of morality that Geto has, as he is overjoyed to see our characters sacrifice themselves for Yuta.

3 Jujutsu High Vs Geto’s Army

In a fight of the scale we had never seen in JJK before, the climax of this movie sees the entirety of Jujutsu High, teachers and students, coming together to battle Geto’s army of evil sorcerers.

This is truly a sight to behold as viewers get glimpses of some of their favorite characters from the original show. On top of that fans get to see a multitude of weird and wonderful cursed spirit designs. The pure scale and numbers on show here makes this fight one of the best in the series to date.

2 Gojo Vs Miguel

Gojo is already a shonen legend, with his crystal-blue eyes and almost-infinite power, Jujutsu fans are always eager to see this sorcerer in action. This battle begins with Gojo casually decimating a powerful spirit, without breaking a sweat of course. The battle quickly becomes a fight for survival for Miguel as he desperately tries to hold out against Gojo.

This fight is fantastic for a multitude of reasons, but the personalities’ of both characters elevate it to one of the best in the series. Watching a sorcerer desperately trying to hold his own against Gojo, while the casual teacher puts in about 1% effort, is exactly what fans wanted from JJK 0.

1 Yuta Vs Geto

rika and yuta

This conflict is the culmination of the entire film, and it is truly worthy of being the movie’s final battle. Throughout JJK 0, viewers see Yuta grow, learning not to fear the spirit that has cursed him, and instead love her. In this fight we see him truly come into his own, defeating one of the most powerful sorcerers the series has ever seen.

Like all the very best shonen battles, this fight combines stakes, with heart-wrenching character moments, and sleek animation to create a spectacle worthy of the medium.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has premiered in Japanese theaters on December 24, 2021. At the time of writing, it has no confirmed global or western release dates yet.
