Kicking off The Game Awards 2018 comes an announcement from a young studio started by the director of Far Cry 5 and Assassin's Creed 3. Introducing Journey to the Savage Planet, a first-person adventure game filled with exploration and misadventure. Journey to the Savage Planet is planned for release across PC, PS4, and Xbox One, though players can sign up for the "Pioneer Program" no on the game's official website.

The Pioneer Program is an appropriate title for such a thing, because Journey to the Savage Planet is about players being launched into space towards a mysterious and unknown planet. Players will be provided little to no equipment beyond what's necessary for their immediate survival, if that, and must determine if the planet is fit for human habitation. Though it seems the bigger test will be to see if the player can survive at all in general.

The short trailer shown during The Game Awards 2018 pre-show doesn't spoil too much about Journey to the Savage Planet. It begins in an empty spaceship and floats out to a lively, wild planet. The astronaut that's led us here is already dead, a mysterious alien lies nearby. As the camera pans upward, the viewer is left to wonder just what awaits them among the odd flora and fauna within hands reach -- and beyond.

What's particularly exciting about Journey to the Savage Planet is the team behind it. Typhoon Studios is relatively young, made from three friends who left Ubisoft for it. Alex Hutchinson will be the most familiar to the gaming audience as the director of Far Cry 4 and Assassin's Creed 3, but he's joined by Reid Schneider and Yassine Riahi, executive director and technical director of Far Cry 4 respectively. The two also worked on the Batman Arkham series together, as well as Army of Two.

The three together have the experience to not only put together an outstanding game, but also to form the team necessary in Montreal, Quebec to make an outstanding game. Journey to the Savage Planet appears to be that game, but Typhoon is only just getting started showing it to us.
