Jon Bernthal responded to the fan casting about being the Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) Wolverine. Bernthal has already tackled one Marvel character, The Punisher, which most fans believe was a role that was tailor-made for him. However, some fans see him as an ideal Wolverine mainly due to his previous acting roles.

Jon Bernthal is known for having many roles that include violent action scenes, killing, and brutality. Bernthal did an excellent job as the Punisher and brought a darker side to the MCU that isn't often displayed by other heroes from other projects. Marvel movies have been typically very lighthearted and this is often what pulls in their large audience.

Bernthal responded to a question during an interview with Forbes, "Look, the criteria in which I sort of decide what I'm doing next is: Does the script move me? Who am I working with? Who is the filmmaker and is that somebody I'm dying to work with? I'm going to hold onto that moving forward no matter what that is...I get it, I get that the Marvel questions, you're asking these questions because it's super important to a lot of people; people love these characters and I get that and I come to that with absolute respect. What I will tell you again is that Frank Castle is in my bones. Frank Castle is in my bones". The actor solidified the fact that he is staying as the Punisher no matter what. His being selective with his roles, who he works with, and what he does is often why he gets cast in great projects as well as him landing a unique superhero role in Frank Castle/Punisher.

Netflix Punisher

There was artwork on Instagram that showed the actor in the role of the famous mutant. The artwork was posted on Instagram by Stuart Cooper who also wrote out his reasonings for casting the actor in the role of the character which convinced many fans that Bernthal was the obvious choice to play Logan/Wolverine.

However, the one drawback for many, is that they really love him as the Punisher. The character brings the tragic depth to the character while also bringing the necessary brutality as well as fighting prowess needed. Punisher is a conflicted hero to many as his goal is to make New York a better place but his methods in doing so often clash with the "boy scout" ideals of some of the other heroes. Neither side is perfect but at the same time, it's what makes his character compelling.

There's no doubt in anyone's mind that Bernthal would excel as Wolverine but right now it's a case of first come first serve. If he was Wolverine first, then maybe fewer people would want to see him as the Punisher. Whoever Marvel ends up casting for Wolverine will have big shoes to fill following the fan love for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.
