No more Joker after Batman: Arkham Asylum 2? It seems like that could be the case - according to voice actor, Mark Hamill - stating he does not plan on returning to voice Batman's legendary nemesis after the next installment.

The actor almost chose not to come back for Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 either. Rocksteady Studios approached Hamill to bring him back in Arkham Asylum 2, but the actor wasn't entirely sold.

Speaking with IGN, Hamill explained:

"My answer to [developers Rocksteady] for the sequel was, 'Guys, we're never going to be able to top the original.' It was so claustrophobic. There were so many abilities like the stealth mode, and all those things you can do with the new technology. I wanted to be able to say I'd gone out on a high note."

However, Hamill ultimately agreed after Rocksteady convinced him, but has assured gamers, he's done after this release:

"This will be my last, there's no question about that. But it's the last hurrah."

The assertion definitely created a lot of buzz that Arkham Asylum 2 will bring about the death of Joker.

Personally, I think that would be the easy way out - though not entirely unlikely.

The main reason Hamill didn't want to come back was because he thought they couldn't beat the work of the first Arkham Asylum. He agreed to do one more, but it doesn't mean the Joker will just be killed off. There are other alternatives; locked up for good, escaping and laying low or bringing in another voice actor to continue the classic hero/villain combo.

We don't know many details about Arkham Asylum 2 just yet, so it looks like we'll just have to wait until next year to find out how the story ends for the Joker.

What do you hope to see in Arkham Asylum 2? Do you think it will be the end of the Joker?
