Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean has returned with another set of twelve action-packed episodes for fans to binge through. The first part of the series aired in December 2021. For fans not familiar with the manga, they may not have realized this second installment was not going to be the last run.

Based on what the anime has shown so far, there should be one more installment of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean. When Netflix will release that third set has yet to be announced. For now, let’s go through everything that was great about this second installment of this long-running series. There will be spoilers for these episodes along with the first set.

6 The Fights

Kenzou in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean Part 2

The fight scene in this second part of Stone Ocean may not live up to the first part, but there is still some good stuff in here. They are at least some of the most brutal brawls in the entire series. The first one that sticks out is Jolyne’s fight against Westwood who is a seemingly random guard in the maximum security ward. He is being infected by another Stand, Survivor, giving his already bulging body of muscles more power.

On top of that, he has a Stand of his own, Starlight Waves, that can fire meteors at Jolyne. The fight that comes after is another memorable one. Kenzou is an older fighter but is limber enough to get around the battlefield thanks to his mastery of feng shui. Thankfully, FF jumps in to help Jolyne out in her struggles. Those are just two examples, but again, all of the fights are fun to watch in this second batch of episodes.

5 Pulls No Graphic Punches

It was touched on lightly, but it needs to be reiterated that this new slew of episodes may cause some jaws to drop to the floor in pure terror. There are some brutal attacks and kills that are not for the faint of heart. For example, in that fight with Westwood, Jolyne rips off his big toenail and stretches back the skin all the way to the leg. It shows how far Jolyne will go to win.

Another creepy moment involves Sports Maximum spewing out sewage from every pour of his dead body. The body horror doesn’t stop there as there are multiple people that turn into trees, with bones being separated from their bodies. Those are some creepy highlights but rest assured those examples are only scratching the surface. For fans of extremely mature anime, Stone Ocean will not disappoint.

4 The New Stand Powers

The fights are fun from a combat level but they are interesting mysteries given the new powers displayed too. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, as a whole, is sort of like a mystery anime. Each new Stand power presents a challenge to the heroes. They need to find the loophole and take advantage of that before they die.

One of the most overpowered Stands in this second part belongs to Miu Miu, the chief guard at the prison. Her Stand, Lock, which is a play off of Elvis’s famous “Jailhouse Rock” song, mystifies anyone that touches prison bars to lose their memory. Jolyne gets infected in the last two episodes. She can only remember three things at a time which might be a reference to the film Memento as she has to write rules on her body so as not to forget anything. There are eight new Stands in part two and this one might be the coolest of them all.

3 The Style Changes

Westwood in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean Part 2

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure has a unique art style all its own when it comes to the manga. One of the things that the anime has done to make it feel more distinct is to change the art style during battles. Color pallets will be swapped and everything will start to look more funkadelic. This has been true since the first part of this reboot began a decade ago.

Stone Ocean has stood out more in recent memory since the cast is mostly female, giving the artists more things on their bodies to change such as lip color. It’s a gorgeous-looking series that keeps getting better with every new season. The opening CG animation deserves some praise as well since the technology has become much better since 2012. “Stone Ocean” by Ichigo from Kishida Kyoudan & The Akeboshi Rockets is also just a great song.

2 Flashbacks With Dio

Dio in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean Part 2

There are not many flashbacks with Dio, but the few that are in the second part of Stone Ocean are great. Fans get to see more of the ways that Father Pucci and Dio bonded during their time together. There are even hints that the two of them could have been something more romantic although it is not clearly spelled out.

One of the best flashbacks has Dio explain what the Survivor Stand’s powers are capable of. His menacing voice is why he is still one of the most intimidating anime villains of all time. Even death cannot stop this vampire with the ability to manipulate time.

1 Looking Toward Part 3

The end lands on a hopeful note for this second string of episodes. Jolyne is able to escape the magic of Jail House Lock and is able to free Emporio and Ermes in the process too. Together they vow to break out of jail to avenge their fallen comrade, FF.

FF gave their life so that Jolyne could escape and restore her father’s memories. There are a lot of unanswered questions where things left off but rest assured the climax to the next part of Stone Ocean will be an explosive one. Hopefully, Netflix won’t keep fans waiting long.
