Bandai Namco has announced that Giorno Giovanna will be joining the anime fighter Jump Force in Spring 2021. The Italian protagonist is coming as the final character in the second character pass for Jump Force.

With its release back in 2019, the crossover fighter by Spike Chunsoft saw a host of the strongest characters from Shonen Jump duking it out. Recognizable heroes from well-known manga like Straw Hat Luffy, Goku, and Naruto are just a few available to play. Two classic personalities from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Jotaro Kujo and Dio Brando, are also in the cast.

Since launch, a multitude of new characters from various series have come as DLC. While available individually, players can purchase character passes to get each new hero tied to that collection. Coming in Spring 2021, Giorno Giovanna will be the last entry into the second character pass for the game. The protagonist from Part 5 of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Golden Wind, Giorno is one of the most powerful and popular leads in the series.

Currently, there are no promotional images of Giorno’s character model or clips of him in action. The tweet by Bandai Namco suggests that release dates will be updated in 2021, so more information on the fighter may be available later. But fans of Jump Force still have reason to grab the second character pass for the other entries. Shoto Todoroki from My Hero Academia, and Hiei of Yu Yu Hakusho are available now on most platforms.

The appeal behind a game like Jump Force is to have top characters from Shonen Jump manga throwing down. Up until this point, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure had little representation in comparison to the other series. With the Golden Wind anime having come out recently, it is cool to see that Spike Chunsoft is adding Giorno to that list. While the best Jojo can be a contentious debate, there is no doubt that Giorno’s powers will fit right in with the ultimate attacks available in Jump Force.

Unfortunately, despite this epic gathering of classic anime fighters, Jump Force did not release to particularly great reception. Nickle and diming character releases in any fighting game is rather unpopular but not surprising at this point. It is difficult to say whether Giorno’s release will come with that much fanfare overall, and a third pass may be needed. If interest in the game was mixed from launch, it is unlikely that adding characters from somewhat niche series like Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure will change that. However, more fighters are always welcome and Giorno Giovanna should be an exciting addition for fans.

Jump Force is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
