Giorno Giovanna is the protagonist of Golden Wind, which is the fifth part of the series, while Jolyne is the main lead of Stone Ocean. Both the characters have unique traits, which separate them from each other. However, there are several reasons that give Jolyne the edge over Giorno and make her the better protagonist.

The article includes spoilers for Stone Ocean beyond just the 12 episodes that have appeared in Netflix's anime. This includes Jolyne's fate in the saga.

7 More Compassionate

Stone Ocean Jolyne

Giorno is the illegitimate son of DIO, and in a way, he does resemble his father. While Giorno is not a malevolent individual like DIO, he is very focused on achieving his dreams at all costs. In Part 5, there are many instances where Giorno took things overboard and killed people.

Jolyne is different when it comes to handling people. While she will do anything in her power to accomplish her goal, Jolyne does not go out of her way to kill someone. She has shown mercy to her foes many times.

6 More Relatable

Jolyne the main protagonist of Stone Ocean

Giorno grew up in an abusive household, where his step-father would often beat him up. This caused Giorno to have really low self-esteem and it only improved once he unknowingly saved a gangster's life. The gangster protected Giorno from the shadows and once Giorno came to know about the identity of the man, he aspired to change the corrupt mafia.

Jolyne's childhood wasn't great either, but it was better than Giorno's. She grew up without having a father figure by her side. Even when she came down with a serious fever, Jotaro wasn't present there. This led to Jolyne resenting her father. She became a delinquent, who ended up in all kinds of trouble. It is plausible to assume that Jolyne's story is more relatable to the viewers.

5 Doesn't Have An Overpowered Stand

At the beginning of Golden Wind, Giorno had Gold Experience, a powerful close-range stand with the ability to heal and transform anything. The Stand's power is further boosted when Giorno pierced it with the Stand Arrow, which allowed the Stand to evolve into Gold Experience Requiem.

Jolyne didn't awaken her Stand until she was inside the prison. She awakened her Stand when she cut her finger with the amulet that contained a piece of the Stand Arrow. Her Stand, Stone Free, is strong in close quarters, and it has the ability to allow Jolyne to turn parts of her body into strings. Her ability is rather underwhelming in comparison to Giorno's. However, this did not stop Jolyne from becoming one of the strongest characters in Stone Ocean.

4 Better Character Development

By the time Golden Wind started, Giorno had gone through most of his character development. Throughout the entire part, Giorno remains a stoic figure who maintains a calm demeanor all the time. He rarely let his emotions get the better of him in a situation.

In comparison, Jolyne goes through several changes in Stone Ocean. In the beginning, she is a rebellious teenager who doesn't care about the consequences and detests her father for what he has done to their family. However, as the series progresses, Jolyne becomes more understanding and she realizes why Jotaro stayed away for the majority of her life.

3 Uses Her Stand In A Variety Of Ways

Giorno's Gold Experience Requiem is arguably the strongest Stand in the entire series. It has the power to nullify any action that could potentially harm Giorno. In addition to the ability to nullify any action, Gold Experience Requiem retained the power to heal and transform objects. Also, Gold Experience Requiem has sentience, so Giorno does not need to be aware of his surroundings.

Jolyne's Stone Free is a powerful Stand in its own right, but it is not as overpowered as Gold Experience Requiem. It has a very simple ability that allows Jolyne to turn parts of her into strings. It slightly increases the range of her attacks, but this results in a loss of power. In most of the fights, Jolyne has to use her dexterity to wriggle out of difficult situations.

2 Has Epic Final Moment

Jolyne Cujoh saves Emporio

Towards the end, Giorno managed to evolve his Stand, which allowed him to kill Diavolo, who was the main villain of Part 5. With Diavolo gone, Giorno became the new leader of Passione, and thus, successfully achieved his goal.

Jolyne faced a far more arduous challenge in Enrico Pucci. The fight against Pucci resulted in the deaths of Ermes, Jotaro, Anasui. Jolyne and Emporio managed to survive for a bit, however, Jolyne realized that Pucci could track down both of them because she was a Joestar. So, Jolyne sacrificed herself to protect Emporio, who went on to defeat Pucci.

1 Always In The Spotlight

Bucciarati Saying His Iconic Catchphrase Jojo Part 5

Giorno Giovanna is the main lead for Part 5, but on numerous occasions, the secondary characters steal the spotlight from him. Part 5 is considered to have arguably the best supporting cast in the franchise as it has characters such as Bucciarati, Abbacchio, and Narancia. Many fans believe that Bucciarati completely overshadows Giorno.

Jolyne made many friends while she was in the Green Dolphin Street Prison. She became really good friends with Ermes, Foo Fighters, Emporio, and etc. These characters have their moments, but Jolyne always remains at the center of things, which is really important for a protagonist.
