John Wick creator Derek Kolstad has been in high demand since the series of shoot ‘em up action flicks have raked in over $500 billion at the worldwide box office. He has several endeavors lined up for the future, but it is two video game IPs that he is working on that have drawn the most attention.

Kolstad is currently hashing out the script for the fourth John Wick film and is now also pitching two new television adaptations for a pair of popular indie video games. In an interview with Comicbook.com, He said, "I'm going out with a pitch for a television series based on the My Friend Pedro video game, as well as for Bendy and the Ink Machine.”

Bendy and the Ink Machine is a first-person survival horror game that was released episodically beginning in 2017 and finishing in 2018. The game combines puzzle-solving with combat in an environment styled after 1930’s animated cartoons. The plot deals with a retired animator that is forced to fight against cartoon monsters created by the evil Ink Machine. The atmosphere is unsettling and tense, a feeling made worse by some excellent jump scares. A couple of spin-offs have been released and a sequel is expected sometime this year.

My Friend Pedro is even more bananas, where players go through levels, killing enemies at the bidding of a talking banana named Pedro. The parallel to John Wick is pretty obvious, with players utilizing third-person, parkour-inspired action to rack up kills and score points for doing so with style. The 2019 title was published by Devolver Digital, well-known for their work on the Serious Sam games and the indie hit, Hotline Miami.

It will be interesting to see where these projects land if they come to fruition. It’s not the type of programming that makes it on television, although My Friend Pedro originated as a flash game from Adult Swim Games in 2014. Perhaps Cartoon Network could be looking to add it to that block of programming in the future.

Despite his packed schedule, Kolstad seems to enjoy staying busy. “I got to tell you, man, I'm still a little kid at this and I f****** love it. If I can emulate and replicate any success I've had with John Wick elsewhere, I'm going to be that 11-year-old that snuck into an R-rated movie, giggling."

The third sequel for John Wick has been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic and pending obligations for director Chad Stahelski and lead actor Keanu Reeves, who are both committed to the Matrix 4.

John Wick 4 is currently slated for release on May 27, 2022.
