John Cena is very serious about promoting his anti-hero Peacemaker. During the marketing phase of The Suicide Squad, the actor showed up in full costume at several events. With the spin-off series about his character from the film arriving in January, he is donning his Peacemaker suit once again to promote the project. He surprised fans at the San Diego Comic-Con Special Edition by walking on stage, in full costume, during the Peacemaker portion of the cosplay contest.

Cena shared a video of the entire sequence of events on his Twitter account, with him showing up on stage wearing his traditional red, blue, and beige Peacemaker costume. He revealed that as part of the promotions for the HBO Max series, he “got lessons in TikToks, showed some footage from the show, and hugged Eagly,” Peacemaker's pet eagle.

The video begins with Cena arriving at an airport and waving at an empty airfield, a great representation of Peacemaker's true character. He believes he is extremely popular, as was visible in a new Peacemaker clip aired during San Diego Comic-Con Special Edition. When arguing with the hospital janitor, he insists on his popularity and curses at Aquaman because the janitor seems to think that the hero is more popular than Cena’s character.

During his appearance at San Diego Comic-Con Special Edition, Cena even teased a potential second season of the Peacemaker series. “Peacemaker on HBO Max on January 13. Please don’t miss it, because I really like doing this stuff, and I’d like to do it again,” he is heard saying. Director James Gunn has previously also said that he would like to continue making Peacemaker content, so there is a possibility that this isn’t the last that fans will see of Cena’s character.

The actor was also seen surprising some fans who were participating in a paintball contest. He even posed for pictures with cosplayers and was caught on camera hugging an individual dressed as Eagly. “I won’t forget this,” he says excitedly.

Gunn's The Suicide Squad premiered in theatres in August of this year, and Peacemaker was a part of Task Force X, a black-ops unit that was founded by Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller. He is later revealed to be a mole for the government and plans to destroy all the evidence on Starro, the giant starfish that is being hidden at Jotunheim in Corto Maltese. After his true motive is revealed, he goes up against Idris’ Elba’s Bloodsport and is left for dead. However, in the post-credits scene of the film, it is revealed that he is in fact alive, which sets up the Peacemaker series perfectly.

Peacemaker premieres on HBO Max on January 13, 2021.
