In a newly released promotional clip for HBO Max's Peacemaker, John Cena's Christopher Smith does not seem to be a big fan of Jason Momoa's Aquaman. The minute-and-a-half-long clip has been shared multiple times on social media, but was first aired as part of the San Diego Comic-Con Special Edition, and has since been posted on the series’ official website, peacemakeriscoming.com.
A spin-off to James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, the HBO Max series Peacemaker will further explore the story of Cena’s fan-favorite character. Fans got to see the first Peacemaker trailer back in October, with Peacemaker and his team in action, and the newly launched website for the series promises to deliver a new trailer on December 3.
The hilarious new Peacemaker clip does offer fans an insight into where the series might pick up. As part of the post-credits scene in The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker was seen under observation in a hospital. The new Peacemaker clip shows him in the same location, wearing a hospital gown, and having an interesting conversation with the janitor.
New clip from the upcoming HBO Max series 'Peacemaker'. New trailer coming on December 3rd. from DC_Cinematic
The two initially go back and forth about whether the janitor named Jamil, and portrayed by Rizwan Manji, is trustworthy or not. Peacemaker, who reveals that he was once in a wheelchair, seems to trust Jamil, but the latter isn’t ready to take on the responsibility. When Peacemaker reveals that he was in jail for “superhero shit,” Jamil hilariously quips that he is “too bulky to be a superhero.”
Eventually, the janitor refers to Aquaman as a popular superhero, which Cena’s Peacemaker is not happy about and he immediately curses at the hero. This implies that he is aware of the hero’s presence in the DC Extended Universe, with Aquaman having previously appeared in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, 2017’s Justice League, 2018’s Aquaman, and 2021’s Zack Snyder's Justice League.
The fact that the janitor is also a fan of Aquaman is a direct reference towards the interconnectedness in the DCEU. It would be interesting to see if the two popular characters ever have a crossover.
Peacemaker premieres on HBO Max on January 13, 2021.
