Horizon: Forbidden West is proving to be a success on most fronts, not least of which is the quality of its actors' performances across the board. The protagonist herself, Aloy, is voiced by the extremely prolific Ashly Burch, and it would seem that her work on the game has garnered her a lot of attention from all sides.

One of the people who are particularly fond of Burch's work on Horizon: Forbidden West is none other than the legendary Hollywood filmmaker and composer, John Carpenter. Carpenter recently praised the game on Twitter, saying that Ashly Burch "triumphs" in the role of Aloy, a compliment that Burch promptly thanked Carpenter for.

Over the years, Ashly Burch has attained quite an impressive portfolio of voice-work, and though she is a well-recognized actress in the industry, it seems that Aloy may well be Burch's most beloved character yet. Previously, she had performed as Parvati from The Outer Worlds and Cassie Cage from Mortal Kombat X just to list a few examples. In 2022 specifically, Ashly Burch is the lead in AAA games such as Forbidden West and Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, no less.

It's not particularly strange, then, that a gaming aficionado such as John Carpenter would not only take notice of Burch's performance, but also take to Twitter in order to praise her for it. After all, the role of Aloy calls for quite a lot of acting range, especially with all the tough moral choices present in Horizon: Forbidden West. According to both gaming critics and the wider audience, Burch brings Aloy to life in a very special way, and is one of the highlights of the game.

The fact that Horizon: Forbidden West is a rather long game works to underline Burch as Aloy even further, as the actress had to have recorded thousands upon thousands of lines over the course of the game's development - many of which are entirely optional, to boot. With Tiny Tina's Wonderlands set to launch on March 25th, fans of Burch's performance have lots more to look forward to, though it's safe to say that Tina won't be quite as grounded as Aloy in any way, shape, or form.

On another note, though Burch certainly does triumph as Aloy, the fact that Horizon: Forbidden West was developed without crunch is worth plenty of praise, as well. Putting Forbidden West down as a serious contender for the GOTY title of 2022 already seems like a safe bet, and Guerilla Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment have done some stellar work with this particular release.

Horizon Forbidden West is now available on PS4 and PS5 consoles.
