Jett: The Far Shore didn't disappoint, to say the least. Its downright thoughtful game structure helps players submerge into the fantastic world of the gameplay, making it a binge-worthy experience. While the game immediately introduces its players to a somewhat confusing world, it also has various sequences that help players get to know this world comfortably.

This allows players to grow to love the environment right off the bat while mastering the controls quickly. But even though Jett: The Far Shore does a fantastic job even in its first thirty minutes, there are some things people wish they knew before getting started. Here are a few beginner tips.

8 Take It Slow

There are brakes for a reason, and players should take advantage the opportunity to use them. Chances are, everyone goes too fast when exploring the world of Jett, so a good rule of thumb is to move slowly but surely forward.

This not only allows players to explore more, but also helps when maneuvering and navigating through tight spaces. There's also a slow-motion button (TAB/L1) which allows players to explore spaces, and can help with making quick decisions.

7 Get Ready For A Complex Story

Jett is a narrative-heavy game, meaning players need to prepare for a complex story and a lot of narration. This can scare away some players, while for others, this is the sole reason they start playing. Whichever the case, it's an important thing to know before diving in.

There are also a lot of cryptic conversations that don't offer any explanation or clarity, at least in the first half of the game. This fleshes out the setting of the game, but can be frustrating at times for players who are not used to a slower-paced, narration-oriented game like this one.

6 Scan Constantly

Players need to spam the scan to get true results. The scan may not recognize everything in a quick glance, so players need to scan multiple times to get the resources they're looking for. If players think they're scanning a lot, they should still double the amoung they're doing so, especially in the first phase of the game when they're getting to know the controls and the responses of the game.

Players need every bit of knowledge they can gather in order to obtain more tools on the way. And last, but certainly not least, this game is highly interactive. It's full of interactive elements that only show themselves upon the player scanning them.

5 It's Even More Confusing Than It Seems

Not only are the game's monologues cryptic and the narrations long, but the entire game is written in a fictional language. Players should be prepared to fight off enemies while focusing on a mission, exploring the world, and also reading subtitles almost constantly.

This makes the game incredibly complicated, and it will take a while to get used to this multitasking. A good tip is to start by focusing on the environment rather than the monologues, and if there's an opportunity, stop and read when important dialogues are happening in the background.

4 Be Careful When Boosting

A flight can get easily interrupted if the booster malfunctions, and this occurs quite often. To avoid this, it's wise to leave the booster for moments when it's necessary, and always wait for it to cool down if something happens.

Another good practice to get used to is easing up in the booster before it reaches its peak. This way, malfunctions won't happen as often, and players can spare some time and avoid accidents.

3 Resist The Binge

While the story and the environment are captivating, this is certainly not a game worth binge-playing. Instead, it's best to play it in portions. This is made clear throughout the game, as at the beginning of every new chapter, the game notifies players as to how long that chapter will be. As it's nearly impossible to play through the game in one sitting, it's recommended to consider the game as a collection of episodes.

The length of a chapter ranges from 30 minutes to 4 hours, and it's up to the player whether or not they want to start the mission. But players need to be committed, because while there's an autosave feature, there isn't any manual save. Important data can get lost if a player isn't committed for the full length of the chapter.

2 Sometimes It Gets Scary... And Weird

Jett: The Far Shore is an incredibly confusing place to be. Players who know about the story can guess that it gets pretty weird along the way, with prophecies, a made-up language, philosophical discussions, and surreal visions. But what players can't even imagine is that it gets so incredibly weird, that it's easy to get lost in the tiny details.

These strange elements don't stray too far from the main narrative. Sometimes getting lost in the details will happen whether the player likes it or not, but other times it can be avoided. This is up to the gamer. But when diving into this new experience, it's important to know that sometimes the game can get very dark, and resemble more of a horror game than anything else. It's not for everyone.

1 Players Aren't Free To Explore

Based on pictures and trailers, many players can't wait to explore this beautiful world. But sadly, exploration is limited. There are times when the player can go out to explore freely, but Jett doesn't have any breaks in the main story, so this can only happen within the borders of the main mission.

People should realize that this is not a sandbox game, nor is it an open world. The entire game is linear, and strictly follows the story of the main mission, with few to no breaks along the way. Thankfully, this isn't as big of an inconvenience, because players can explore within the mission. What's more, the story is so great, that they usually won't even wish for more to do.

Jett: The Far Shore was released on October 5, 2021, and is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Microsoft Windows
