Jenna Ortega has recently revealed that the highly anticipated Scream 6 will feature the most violent and destructive version of Ghostface fans have seen yet.

Earlier this year, the beloved Scream franchise celebrated its 25th anniversary since the release of the first original Scream movie. To mark the occasion, audiences were reunited and reacquainted with the infamously terrifying Ghostface killer. Ghostface is a villain that always makes a comeback; no matter how many times he has been defeated, fans know by now that he will inevitably return to haunt the residents of Woodsboro yet again. The fifth installment in the franchise, Scream, performed quite well at the box office, despite it debuting in theaters in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite those barriers, the fifth Scream film brought in $140 million against a $24 million budget. Shortly after the film’s initial success, Scream 6 was announced by Paramount.

Scream (2022) reunited the original trio of legacy stars from 1996’s Scream, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette. However, the film also introduced some fresh energy to the iconic horror franchise with newcomers Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Ortega. Serving as Ghostface's latest victims, the four characters did manage to make it out alive at the end of the film, allowing them to reprise their roles for Scream 6. Ortega and Barrera assumed the lead roles in Scream as sisters Tara and Sam Carpenter, due to the fact that their characters happen to have an ancestral link to one of the other franchise’s original characters, Billy Loomis. Now, during a recent red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ortega was asked if there were any hints she could drop for fans regarding Scream 6.

Not much news has been revealed thus far in terms of details for Scream 6. Ortega obviously remained quite composed and a bit shy when prompted, probably for fear of accidentally dropping major spoilers. Yet, she did offer up that Scream 6 is taking the level of violence, aggression, and overall horror to a whole other level this time around. Ortega shared, “Ghostface gets a lot more intimidating. I just read part of the script, and it just gets more and more gory. I think that this is probably the most aggressive and violent version of Ghostface we’ve ever seen, which I think will really be fun to shoot.”

Production on Scream 6 officially began this month. Fans have also just recently received the confirmation that Scream 4 character Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere) will also be making a comeback for Scream 6 as well. Ghostface is hungry more than ever for redemption and revenge, leading fans to really wonder which characters will be able to survive his wrath - to be the last ones standing at the very end.

Scream 6 hits theaters on March 31st, 2023.
