Jedi Knights, no doubt a highly played class in BioWare's upcoming MMORPG The Old Republic, are a huge staple in the Star Wars universe - and they'll be getting specialization classes. In fact, those of you familiar with the original Xbox RPG Knights of the Old Republic are probably already familiar with the classes of the Jedi Guardian and the Jedi Sentinel.

The Jedi Knight is already a powerful character, but why not spice it up a bit by adding some variety to your play style? A not so-long-time-ago, we told you about the Sith specialization classes, the Marauder and Juggernaut, who played DPS and tank roles, respectively. The Jedi's specialization classes have a similar flair, but in a less dark-side way (blah).

The Jedi Guardian (pictured above) looks to play like a Paladin in WoW terms, being able to tank and buff their allies, and they can wear heavy armor without being encumbered. The image in my head of an armored Jedi moving with unbelievable speed sounds like something I would never want to encounter in real life but would love to take control of in the game world.

BioWare's official description puts a bit more drama into their description:

"A wall between the good people of the Republic and their enemies, the Guardian stands firm in the face of overwhelming odds and dares opponents to attack. Perfect concentration and use of the Force allows smooth movement even in heavy armor--making the Guardian a hard target to take down. Leaders on and off the battlefield, Guardians are known for inspiring allies to amazing feats, making them invaluable for conflicts of any size."

The front line capabilities of the Guardian may also suit people itchy to constantly be in the action, as well. I like to imagine Guardians being able to cast Force Speed on his allies and have everyone attack at a crazy fast rate. And what's scarier than one lightsaber attacking at high speeds? That's right, TWO lightsabers, made possible through the Sentinel specialization tree.

The description for the Sentinel follows:

"Control and focus are the hallmarks of the Sentinel. Through years of training the Sentinel learns the art of using two Lightsabers simultaneously to create an intricate web of damage that is almost impossible to evade. Manipulating the Force, the Sentinel can see holes in the enemy defense, potential flaws in their own technique and how best to plan for both."

The Old Republic Jedi Sentinel

In addition to a DPS role for the light side of the Force, Sentinels may also be able to debuff their enemies to increase the killing speed. "Intricate web of damage" sounds pretty awesome, too. Perhaps there might be some AoE action included in the Sentinel's repertoire - maybe even some Force grip powers; though, fighting a restrained opponent doesn't seem to be in a Jedi's purview.

With the Miraluka race and Sith Purebloods, both highly Force attuned races, I'd guess they receive a bonus for pursuing their respective classes.

The Old Republic continues to feed my interest in finally playing a MMORPG - and if playing a Jedi (or Sith) wasn't enough, the prospect of space combat and owning my own starship is also very enticing, if not mouthwatering. No offense to those who adventure in Azeroth, but a galaxy just seems a lot more exciting to me.
