Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is the best Star Wars game we have received in a long time. Fans of the series have craved a singleplayer action-adventure Star Wars game for so long. When Visceral Games was shut down back in 2017, fans were devasted to hear "Project Ragtag" would be turned into something else.

Respawn Entertainment did an excellent job of creating a video game set in the Star Wars universe. The characters are interesting and the world fits perfectly into the source material. Jedi: Fallen Order also showcases exceptional video game mechanics that feel great when playing.

10 Executions

Jedi: Fallen Order is full of great features, but one of the few that heightens combat are executions. Executions are typically performed when an enemy reaches a certain amount of health. Cal will then perform a stylistic maneuver to finish off the enemy.

These executions are really fun even though they don't always remove a limb from what Cal is killing. The things Cal can dismember are droids and creatures, which create satisfying moments. Each execution is a nice reward even though their variety is limited.

9 Enemy Variety

Speaking of enemies, the variety is all over the place. Respawn Entertainment has developed a wide cast of humans, droids, and creatures. Even some of the plants are dangerous which creates different traversal techniques. The Star Wars universe is full of lore so there is no surprise this area is flourishing.

Stormtroopers are the primary enemy type, but even then they have their own variations. Commanders, scout troopers, and flame troopers all have their own approach to combat. Throw in a few spiders or a purge trooper and the combat is flooded with various combat techniques.

8 Deflecting Blaster Fire

One of the most satisfying features of Jedi: Fallen Order is deflecting blaster fire. As soon as a bolt of energy shoots toward Cal, he is capable of shielding himself in an instant, which will send the laser right back home. The move is very satisfying when successfully done and can easily dispatch standard stormtrooper types.

This feature is improved upon later on in the game when Cal upgrades his lightsaber to a double-sided saber. He is then able to deflect multiple laser bolts from different enemies. They will quickly shoot back to where they originated and deal massive damage. It is one of the most satisfying combat maneuvers in the game.

7 Double-Sided Lightsaber

Since we are already on the subject of the double-sided lightsaber, we might as well mention it. This feature is one of the most significant upgrades Cal receives to his lightsaber. At the same time, he has the ability to pull the double-sided lightsaber apart and wield two sabers.

This new upgrade opens up more combat actions which richen combat even further. As aforementioned, the saber is capable of deflecting multiple blaster bolts at once. The saber does less damage when out but gives more slashes every attach. The saber also adds new combat features in the skills tree.

6 BD-1's Hacking Ability

BD-1 is one of the most likable characters in Jedi: Fallen Order. Respawn Entertainment has a knack for creating robots that we can all love. Eventually, BD-1 obtains the ability to hack droids like the probe droids. This ability becomes very useful when dealing with organic and mechanical enemies.

Focus the droids first before the organic enemies. Hack the enemies, and then watch the show. The droids will start attacking other enemies for you which can take the attention off of Cal. This helps him take out enemies by surprise that he normally wouldn't.

5 Customization

Many action-adventure games like Jedi: Fallen Order do not have the most customization options. Respawn Entertainment has done a great job of giving players a reason to search for collectibles. These collectibles provide experience and customization options.

Players have the opportunity to customize Cal's poncho, BD-1's color, The Mantis' color, and his lightsaber. These features are not a lot compared to other games, but they feature ways players can make Cal their own. His lightsaber is the standout customization option of all of these options because who doesn't want to make their own lightsaber?

4 The Map

Holograms are all over the place in the Star Wars universe. Jedi: Fallen Order provides players with a Metroidvania style map. BD-1 is capable of moving the map up and down so Cal can get a better look at the planet. This really helps Cal discover new places he has yet to discover.

Furthermore, the map will also display areas that are accessible to Cal via green. Red items are areas that he cannot yet explore which helps save time when exploring. The map is the perfect representation of holograms in the Star Wars universe.

3 Exploration

The map greatly assists in exploration, but there are many other aspects that enrich the experience. Each of the six planets in Jedi: Fallen Order is full of areas that Cal can discover. Each area is full of puzzles, hidden chests, and force echos.

The fact that players can read the database of every character, event, location, and creature makes exploring fun. Reading the lore helps fans of the Star Wars universe put these new things into a broader perspective. The fact that there are no fast travel points helps encourage players to explore.

2 Puzzles

Jedi: Fallen Order is full of puzzles, but they are not overly complicated like the ones in Uncharted or Tomb Raider. The puzzles Cal needs to solve are typically straightforward. However, there are times the puzzles require some lengthy thought processes.

The puzzles in Jedi: Fallen Order are also limited to temples. They are not located anywhere else, which helps keep the puzzle-solving element in one place.  There are numerous features to each temple, which leads to the puzzles taking a lesser role.

1 The Environment

Star Wars is full of unique characters, places, creatures, and technology. Jedi: Fallen Order leans right into its source material by creating an exceptional world to explore. Kashyyyk had been recognized before, but it was great to see the world fleshed out even further in a video game.

The wide range of biomes in the Jedi: Fallen Order keeps the gameplay fresh because there are new elements added when traversing. From icy peaks to lush forests, Jedi: Fallen Order has the main biome types locked down. Each biome adds a new feature to the gameplay keeping the game fresh late in the game.
