Jason Statham is one of the most prolific action movie stars currently working in today's Hollywood. His films range from solo action films such as The Transporter, Crank, and The Mechanic to crowd-pleasing blockbusters such as Spy, The Meg, and various Fast and Furious films. Now, after playing many roles from that of a small-town father, to a thief, and to a cash truck bodyguard, Statham will take his penchant for compelling action heroes to a new occupation in a newly-greenlit Miramax thriller that is aptly titled The Bee Keeper.

Plot information is scarce at this time, but The Bee Keeper is described by Deadline as a "lightning-paced thriller deeply steeped in the mythology of Bee Keeping," with Miramax CEO Bill Block reportedly describing the story as "unconventional" and "exploring universal themes," stating in confidence that viewers will be kept on the edge of their seats. The Bee Keeper and Statham are in good hands, as the film will be the action star's third partnership with Miramax in a row following the action thriller Wrath of Man and Guy Ritchie's next film, Five Eyes, which is set to release next year.

A director has not signed onto the film yet, but the script for The Bee Keeper was written by accomplished Hollywood screenwriter Kurt Wimmer, who has written many notable films including Equilibrium, Law Abiding Citizen, Salt, and the 2012 Total Recall remake. Besides The Bee Keeper, Miramax is keeping busy with its productions and upcoming releases, including the Hulu sci-fi flick Mother/Android, horror sequel Halloween Kills, and the latter's follow-up, Halloween Ends.

Jason Statham in The Meg

Besides Five Eyes and The Bee Keeper, Statham currently does not have any other film projects lined up for release in the foreseeable future. Statham had been poised to star in action-comedy The Man From Toronto alongside Kevin Hart, but he left the film and was replaced by Woody Harrelson after a creative dispute with Sony Pictures. Statham recently cameoed in Furious 9 and may or may not appear in future Fast and Furious films, unlike Dwyane Johnson, who will not star in future franchise installments.

A film starring Statham as a beekeeper may sound weird at first, but fans of the action hero can rest assured knowing that yet another thriller with a sting is making its way to moviegoers in the near future. Statham is nothing if not reliable when it comes to presenting anti-heroes, and his character in The Bee Keeper is sure to be no exception.

The Bee Keeper is set to begin filming around September of 2022.
