Jared Leto has recently revealed that he is still open to returning to his iconic roles as Morbius and the Joker. Leto was tasked with the challenge of introducing the main character, Dr. Michael Morbius to audiences for the very first time. Unfortunately, the film went on to be a major flop, failing both critically and financially as well. Morbius only ended up bringing in a total of $164 million, against a budget estimated to be around $75 million.

As of late, Morbius attracted a lot of attention and popularity online, in meme form. This resulted in Sony deciding that this would be the perfect time to re-release the film, only for it to flounder yet again. Morbius was hardly Leto's first time taking on a classic comic book villain. The actor previously starred in 2016's Suicide Squad as the infamous Joker.

Similar to Morbius, the 2016 DC film was quite shunned by critics. However, Suicide Squad did much better at the box office, grossing over $746 million. Leto's performance as the Joker was quite debated amongst the DC fan base, granting him a mix-bag of reviews, no matter where he turned. Despite the negativity and backlash he received, Leto went on to reprise his role for a brief cameo in Zack Snyder's Justice League. It was at this moment that Leto's character finally met face-to-face with his long-time rival, Ben Affleck's Batman. The entire scene was brought to life in what Snyder fans refer to as one of his 'Knightmare' sequences. Now, in a recent interview with The Playlist, Leto claimed that he is very much interested in returning as both Morbius or the Joker in films to come

The actor didn't reveal too much as to whether either idea had a realistic chance of actually happening in the future. Yet, one thing for certain is that the actor feels as though his work on either character is far from done. When asked if he would be seen in any future superhero roles again, particularly Morbius or Joker, Leto replied, “Well, as the old thing goes, never say never.”

Although a lot of critics do seem to have negative things to say about Leto's performance as Morbius and the Joker, small pockets of DCEU fans steadily adore and praise his devotion to each character. Leto has gone on record to credit his use of method acting when it comes to his craft, in order to fully tap into the mind and body of each character he takes on. Even though it remains up in the air if Leto will end up reprising either of his roles, it seems likely he will at least return to one more character to bid a final farewell.

Suicide Squad is available on HBO Max and Morbius is available on digital platforms.
