Jamie Foxx, arguably one of the most talented people on the planet, is known for high-profile films as well as smaller heartwarming projects. Now he is back with a new Netflix film, Day Shift.

Netflix's Day Shift stars the Foxx in a role where he will be facing off against the vampire legion. Vampire movies are nothing new to the cinema, but each director or writer always has their own creative twist on them. Vampires have ranged from being portrayed as villainous monsters that hunt in the night to the romantic interests of the main protagonist. It seems that vampires are open for interpretation, which is the cool part about writing stories.

After recently appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Foxx will be taking on the lead role in Day Shift. Netflix unveiled a photo of Foxx's character while also announcing an August 12 release date. The picture has the actor front and center with a hand that no doubt belongs to a vampire placed firmly on his shoulder. That image alone portrays both aspects of the blended genre of horror and comedy, which are often two opposite thematic storytelling techniques.

Foxx's character is described as "a hard-working blue-collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted 8-year-old daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires." It seems like Foxx's character isn't one of the many commoners who will be running from the dark threat. Instead, he's chasing the fight, and making a living from it.

J.J. Perry (Fast and Furious 9, The Fate of the Furious, Bloodshot, John Wick) will be directing the feature film. Chad Stahelski and Jason Spitz are both producing for 87Eleven Entertainment while Shaun Redick and Yvette Yates Redick will be producing on behalf of Impossible Dream Entertainment. The film looks to be in solid hands with a team of people who all have experience in high-profile films.

Day Shift will no doubt be a fun summer project that many will be able to enjoy. Those who are looking for a comedy to watch during their summer break can enjoy the humorous dynamic between the father-daughter duo. Meanwhile, those who want Halloween to come early can look forward to the cheap jump scares and frightening terrors that come from the fanged terrors.

Day Shift is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on August 12, 2022.
