Around three months after its premiere, director James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad has released on Blu-ray and DVD. To mark the occasion, Gunn decided to share some behind-the-scenes photos from the set of the film that offer fans a closer look at Peacemaker's cell. From fantastic artwork to fake fan letters, the art department put a lot of thought into preparing the cell that was only visible in the film for a few seconds.

At the beginning of The Suicide Squad, Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis, is seen walking Idris Elba's Bloodsport through the Belle Reve prison. She reveals that she has hired members of Task Force X, which will later be deployed to Corto Maltese for a secret mission, from the prison. During this scene, Peacemaker is seen stepping out of his cell, but fans only catch a glimpse of what’s inside. Gunn has now revealed all the details that the art department worked on.

The images, shared on Gunn’s Twitter and Instagram page, show some intricate artwork, including a giant sketch on the entire back wall of the tiny cell. There are a variety of illustrations of Peacemaker himself, the character portrayed by John Cena who will next be seen in the HBO Max standalone series Peacemaker. The art team clearly put a lot of thought into designing the cell, as they even put up some letters that fans of Peacemaker have written to him while he serves his sentence. Each one of them seems to be thanking him for bringing peace to their neighborhood.

Gunn reveals that the purpose of sharing the images with his followers was to honor the art department for their hard work. They are just “an example of the depth and detail” that the team went into for each set in The Suicide Squad. It turns out that the work put into the cell set inspired Gunn to shape Peacemaker's character for the upcoming HBO Max series.

When he first saw the set, Gunn told the art team that the cell would only be in “the background of a couple of shots for a few seconds,” but they didn’t seem to care. They claimed to have “the most fun ever just doing it” and it shows, because the set looks well thought out.

This isn’t the first time that Gunn has revealed behind-the-scenes details from The Suicide Squad. The director has shared several images and videos in the past to offer fans a look at all the hard work that was put in to bring the film together. He even offered a closer look at Calendar Man, who appeared in just one scene in the film, which shows that each character is important to Gunn, regardless of their on-screen presence.

The Suicide Squad is now available on Blu-ray and DVD.
