It seems like everybody's getting a spinoff these days. Superheroes and supervillains alike (because of course, it's always comic book stuff) are apparently popular enough with fans to break the shackles of their original appearances and claim a spotlight of their own. But what about those who originally only enjoyed a few brief scenes? Well, if The Suicide Squad director James Gunn is involved, that isn't about to stop progress.

The Suicide Squad dominated a good chunk of online discourse for a while after it was released, and for good reason. As divisive as it may have been, particularly for viewers not exactly familiar with Gunn's rather eccentric directing style, it's difficult to deny that it made a real impact on everybody who watched it. Whether that impact comes from Sylvester Stallone's milestone performance as Nanaue, any number of heartwarming scenes from Daniela Melchior's Ratcatcher 2, or simply because exploding heads are funny, The Suicide Squad earned its place in cinematic history.

But one aspect that still continues to enjoy heated discussions on social media is the ambiguous fate of several characters who left the film in a rather messy fashion. One such instance refers to TDK (The Detachable Kid) played by Nathan Fillion. Fans were quick to notice how, while the rest of his squad lay dismembered and disintegrated on that beach, he didn't appear to actually experience much trauma aside from his bullet-ridden disembodied arms. Well, according to Gunn himself, viewers aren't wrong.

"#TDK was definitely alive last we saw him," Gunn said in response to a Twitter user referencing a theory that Fillion's character was still alive after the events of The Suicide Squad. Gunn often spends time on social media responding directly to fans, which tends to feed the excited speculation machine more often than not. This case is no different, as not 10 minutes earlier, he had replied to another user asking whether there would be more spinoffs after the upcoming John Cena-led series Peacemaker with a coy emoji and gif combo.

It doesn't take the most creative mind to link these 2 tweets together, even if they aren't actually related. Given the massive cast of The Suicide Squad (which gets admittedly less massive in the first few minutes of the film), it certainly wouldn't be a stretch to assume that more spinoffs could be on the way. Plus, given how Fillion's TDK is among the few confirmed to still be alive by the end, it seems like a perfect match.

This is all speculation, of course, and Gunn loves to hype people up just for the sake of excitement. But it's easy to get caught up in all this and start hoping for more of that particularly wacky arm-related character. His powers may be a bit less practical in a fight than one would hope, but it would be a great excuse to see more of that signature Gunn style.

The Suicide Squad is now available on Blu-ray and digital.
