Director James Gunn has announced that he is working on multiple new DC projects, which will include characters from the Peacemaker series. However, his busy schedule seems to be impacting the chances of seeing a proper sequel to The Suicide Squad.

The critical success of The Suicide Squad, followed by acclaim for Peacemaker, prompted Warner Bros. to enlist Gunn for several more DC projects, all of which remain unknown at this time. Of course, some fans wonder if a proper sequel to The Suicide Squad will ever come to fruition, and Gunn offered a response to those questions.

Gunn teased some of his upcoming projects during an interview with The Playlist. "I am working very seriously on another DC project, where I’m very involved in the writing and the direction of it," he said. "There will be some blending of the characters from ‘Peacemaker’ in the other shows I’m working on. And I’m involved with a couple of other [DC] things too." One project that Gunn has confirmed is Peacemaker season 2. Gunn stated that he plans to incorporate more DC characters into the show, yet is unsure if any other Justice League members will appear in the upcoming season.

Another suspected project is a spinoff show focused on Viola Davis' Amanda Waller, but Gunn has not yet confirmed the rumors. "We haven’t even announced any TV series yet," he said. "There’s a lot of stories out there about what’s happening, and some of them are accurate, some of them are not." When asked about a potential sequel to his reboot, Gunn said that there have been discussions between him and DC execs, but nothing is set in stone. "Yeah, we’ve talked about it," he said. "But the honest truth is, I just have so many hours in a day to work on stuff. And I had such a fun time working in television that I really think that’s what I’m going to spend the next year of my life doing."

Gunn, who just wrapped production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 last month, has had his hands full of both DC and Marvel projects. While he has enjoyed his time working for DC, the door seems like it is not yet closed for potential collaborations with Marvel. While much of Gunn's upcoming DC projects are still just suspicions and rumors, fans can, at the very least, expect to see more from the Peacemaker characters in DC's future.

The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker season 1 are now available on HBO Max.
