The Suicide Squad may not have been the box office hit Warner Bros. may have expected, but both critics and DC fans received the film enthusiastically. The Suicide Squad was especially praised for bold creative choices by Gunn as well as a slew of exciting characters never before seen in live-action, including King Shark, Polka-Dot Man, Bloodsport, and of course, John Cena's Peacemaker—the latter of which is only days away from receiving their own HBO Max series. Now, James Gunn has taken to Twitter to reveal a new look at Judo Master, one of the show's new onscreen superhumans.

The first iteration of Judo Master appeared in Charlton Comics' fourth issue of Special War Series in November of 1965; the rights to Judo Master and other Charlton Comics heroes were eventually sold to DC Comics, who have since used Judo Master frequently, as four different iterations of the hero have been used in total by the publisher. Interestingly, the fourth version of Judo Master, Sonia Sato, appears in the Watchmen sequel Doomsday Clock as part of the Japanese superhero team Big Monster Action. The power of Judo Master is exactly as his title suggests, as the character fights criminals using exemplary proficiency of the Judo martial art.

For the upcoming Peacemaker series, James Gunn posted a screenshot of actor Nhut Le (Kroll Show) as Judo Master to Twitter on Tuesday. The dynamic image grants DC fans a closer look at Judo Master's outfit as he gears up for a fight. By this first look, fans can know that they're in for an intense portrayal of Judo Master by Nhut Le.

In addition to Nhut Le and Peacemaker actor John Cena, the series boasts a plethora of exciting cast members including Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, and Chukwudi Iwuji. In addition, the cast also includes Robert Patrick, who famously portrayed the villainous T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgement Day—he will play Peacemaker's father. James Gunn is the creator of the series, the writer of all eight episodes, and the director of at least five episodes, while Fringe episode director Brad Anderson has been confirmed to be directing episode seven.

James Gunn's Peacemaker series has quickly become one of the most exciting DC series in recent memory due to James Gunn's involvement as well as a story involving characters like Peacemaker, Judo Master, and Adrian Chase (a.k.a. Vigilante). Peacemaker is looking to be yet another DC hit for Warner Bros. and HBO Max alongside established shows Doom Patrol, Titans, and Pennyworth—and time will tell if the series is able to join their ranks.

Peacemaker debuts on HBO Max on January 13th, 2022.
