James Gunn has quite the resume when it comes to superhero movies. Having worked with both Marvel and DC, his latest project in The Suicide Squad has been getting plenty of plaudits, and now it looks like he's getting ready to make another DCEU movie or television show.
Gunn is technically already working on another DC project in a spinoff from The Suicide Squad. The Peacemaker series is soon headed to HBO Max and will apparently be a kind of prequel to the movie. Now it looks as if the famed director is working on yet another project outside of his latest.
Gunn treated his fans to the tease about this new project in the middle of a Twitter debate about what he's working on next. Several of his followers understood that he'd been teasing a project after The Suicide Squad, however, they thought he was specifically referencing the Peacemaker series. Gunn eventually replied that they weren't on the right track, commenting, "Yes, I'm developing another DC project besides Peacemaker." Beyond that rather large teaser, Gunn didn't expand on what exactly the next DC project is going to be.
There's also the question of just when exactly he's going to be working on the next project. Because he's bouncing back and forth between Marvel and DC, Gunn seems to have a full schedule already. When it comes to confirmed films or television series he's already working on, he's got the Peacemaker series up next. Gunn also has both Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special coming in the next couple of years. He is also apparently working on a Starsky & Hutch movie as well as a Wile. E. Coyote film. It's hard to see where this new DC project could be squeezed into that slate.
One possibility is that this particular movie or television show is in the very early going. There are certainly a number of DC Comics fans who are hoping that he will start work on a follow-up to The Suicide Squad.
As of now, there aren't any announced plans for a sequel to The Suicide Squad, but it's entirely possible that he just teased that something is coming. On the other hand, he could be pointing towards something fans aren't even thinking about at this point in his career. The big question now is just when he might shed light on this new project.
The Suicide Squad is now playing in theaters.
