DC's new creative mastermind James Gunn seems pretty confident some of the people he worked with on Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy will join him on the other side, as he discussed during a recent interview before he departed from the MCU.

While the list of actors who have played roles in both Marvel and DC movies or TV shows is not short, those numbers do decrease if one only considers entries in the MCU and DCEU's worlds. That said, it’s not as if the latter’s boundaries are clearly defined at the moment. After all, since accepting his new job at Warner Bros. Discovery as DC Studios' co-CEO, Gunn has made some drastic changes involving big names like Dwayne Johnson and Henry Cavill, and there is plenty of uncertainty surrounding stars like Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa.

Nevertheless, in a new interview with Empire, James Gunn still referred to his role as writer and director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as his day job, while his new DC gig is more of “a very healthy part-time job that’s at least another 40 to 60 hours a week.” In any case, James Gunn, who’s never been shy about sharing his opinion on social media, took the opportunity to express his love for the Guardians team. “This cast are like my family,” he said, naming Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldaña and Karen Gillan as people he’d love to work with again.

Naturally, in James Gunn's usual style, he jokingly added he might work with all these stars “Probably at my other job.” This wouldn’t be that out of character for him since he brought over Chukwudi Iwuji from Peacemaker to play Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's main villain, the High Evolutionary. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will wrap up the group's journey in the MCU, so it’s likely the last superhero movie job for many cast members.

Regardless of many other Guardians actors not being named by him, it’s understandable that James Gunn wouldn't hold the likes of Vin Diesel, Bradly Cooper, or Michael Rooker in that same regard, as their parts have probably seen them spend way less time together on set. James Gunn's brother, Sean Gunn, has appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, but rather than this being some form of nepotism, it seems like James Gunn treats his actors like family.

Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Ryan Reynolds, and Willem Dafoe are some of the more famous actors that have starred in both Marvel and DC, so it’s anyone’s guess what kind of roles any of the Guardians actors could tackle in the DC Universe's future.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will premiere on May 5, 2023.
