Marvel fans have been patiently waiting for the upcoming film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, with the last installment in the franchise releasing over four years ago. It seems like the stars of the upcoming film were equally excited to go back to working on the project, and some of them had an emotional reaction to the script. But, what they didn’t expect is Gunn’s perfectly hilarious response to their reaction.

When they first read the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, stars Karen Gillan and Pom Klementieff, who portray the roles of Nebula and Mantis, respectively, got quite emotional and confessed to having cried. This piece of news caught the attention of Gunn and as he shared it on his Twitter account, he joked about how Gillan and Klementieff were probably crying because they “just got paper cuts.”

One might think that the joke would end there, but Gunn took it up a notch and jokingly hoped that it wasn’t because the stars “thought they had too few lines, because honestly their roles are both pretty huge and it seems greedy.” Of course, his followers joined in on the joke and went on to create other humorous scenarios, such as Gillan and Klementieff stubbing their toes, allergies causing their eyes to water, and even being exposed to freshly cut onions.

The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is known to bring in emotional aspects, especially related to the characters’ families. Whether it is the heart-to-heart conversations between Peter Quill and Yondu or the twisted relationship between Nebula and Gamora, there are several scenes in the films where the characters talk about their feelings. These are bound to strike a chord with the stars and fans, and even lead to emotional reactions, similar to the one that Gillan and Klementieff had upon reading the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

However, during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, when Gunn was asked about a potential Marvel and DC crossover, he joked about the Guardians characters going down the same path as those of Task Force X in The Suicide Squad. Fans are now wondering if that could potentially be the reason why the stars of the film are getting emotional after reading the script. Several of the anti-heroes die in The Suicide Squad, and while only Yondu and the original Groot have died in the Guardians franchise so far, anything is possible in the future. Fans will just have to wait and find out.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will premiere in theaters on May 5, 2023.
