While James Gunn may be responsible for the DC reboot, the DC Studios Co-Head states that the decision to end Titans and Doom Patrol was not his. Many DC series, films, and movies are being cancelled left and right to make room for what is to come. However, Gunn cleared the air on his level of participation in the cancellations with parting words that have become all too common for Warner Bros. Discovery.Doom Patrol and Titans will end after their current seasons, but luckily, the producers saw this coming and had written definitive endings for the shows. This decision follows Warner Bros. Discovery cancelling Batgirl in its post-production state and the decision to not move forward with Batman: Caped Crusader, Henry Cavill's Superman, Wonder Woman 3, and many others. The decisions to cancel ongoing projects, some of which the company does not deem successful, were not only made by Gunn for his upcoming DCU but, according to CEO David Zaslav, also because of a financial crisis left by the previous Warner Bros. executives after the Discovery merger.RELATED: Gotham Knights Casts Ethan Embry And Sunny Mabrey As Couple With Batman TiesDue to the public discourse following the endings of Titans and Doom Patrol, Gunn set the record straight on his role in their abrupt conclusions. Gunn responded to fan criticism on Twitter that suggested the decision to cancel Doom Patrol and Titans was made in service of the upcoming DCU slate. Gunn denied these claims and stated that the decision was made before he started at DC Studios and that he wishes the best for everyone behind the production of each show.

On the surface, it may seem like, at least what appears to be, transparency between fans and studio executives, which couldn't be said about studio executives during the DCEU days. However, there seems to be a pattern in development regarding the talking points and responses used in selective public replies to paint a specific picture of fan discourse, which has the potential to create further division. This pattern might explain why this untested PR tactic may not be considered professional, despite its growing popularity through the years, thanks to public figures like Elon Musk and Donald Trump.

Given the nature of each series, they could have gone on for a long time. However, all great things must end, which is sure to be bittersweet for Doom Patrol and Titans fans. Despite the shocking and painful realization for audiences, there is a silver lining in the fact that the writing will at least provide an ending to the series that the producers are excited for fans to see.

Titans and Doom Patrol will air their last six episodes later this year on HBO Max.
