Since it was revealed that new DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran had plans for the Superman franchise that did not include Henry Cavill, fans have been wondering who would be cast to play the hero. Rumors have been swirling online of different actors stepping in to play the role, with one of the top contenders being The Kissing Booth star Jacob Elordi. Gunn has clarified these casting rumors and revealed what’s coming for the superhero franchise. After Black Adam was released, Cavill confirmed that he would return to be a part of the Superman franchise. However, the hype was short-lived, as it was confirmed a few months later that Cavill is not going to be the DC Universe's Superman. Gunn and Safran had an entirely new plan for the franchise, and Cavill was not a part of their vision. This led to severe disappointment among Cavill fans, but it also started conversations online about who would replace him. It seems like the DC heads are still figuring it out.RELATED: Black Adam Editors Didn't Know About Henry Cavill's Superman Cameo Until Late In The GameGunn is known for being active on social media and often responds to his followers’ comments and questions on Twitter. When one fan asked him to share his thoughts about Elordi possibly being cast as the lead for the Superman franchise, Gunn immediately confirmed that “no one has been cast as Superman yet.” He revealed that he focuses on casting “after the script is finished or close to finished, and it isn’t” just yet. “We’ll announce a few things in not too long, but the casting of Superman won’t be one of them,” his tweet read, followed by an emoji of a merman, which fans assumed was a reference to Aquaman.

Since Gunn and Safran have taken over DC Studios, a lot has changed in the DCU. Apart from Cavill confirming that he will not be playing Superman, it is also known that Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam will take a break. Zachary Levi’s Shazam!, Jason Momoa's Aquaman, and Ezra Miller's Flash are still a part of the DCU, but it remains to be seen how long their journey will last. At this point, it is unclear whether Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman will return for a sequel.

Gunn is currently managing several projects at once. Apart from being the new co-president of DC, he also has to wrap up work on his project in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which releases in May. He also revealed last week that he is currently writing the script for an “unannounced DC TV show,” with many fans wondering if it has something to do with the second The Suicide Squad spin-off he has teased in the past.

A new Superman franchise is currently in development at DC Studios.
