The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is currently working a script that required input from fans. In order to resolve a grammatical issue, Gunn started a poll on his official Twitter account to determine how he would proceed with the script in question.

While Gunn did not reveal exactly what script he is working on, he did ask his Twitter followers to help choose between 'asshat' or 'ass-hat.' According to Gunn, his research on the internet yielded split results and the filmmaker then decided to let fans determine the proper way to spell the word. By the time the poll had reached its endpoint, 73.6% of respondents selected "asshat" as the proper way to spell the world.

The question even elicited a direct response from Canadian-Chinese actor Simu Liu, who agreed with the majority opinion that no hyphen is needed for the world. While Gunn and Liu have not worked together before, both of them are members of the Marvel Studios family. Gunn, as previously mentioned, helmed the Guardians of the Galaxy films while Liu will portray the titular hero of Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Gunn is currently doing post-production work on Warner Bros. and DC's The Suicide Squad, which wrapped filming in February 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic could impact the film's release schedule. The filmmaker had been tapped to direct The Suicide Squad after being fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 due to controversial remarks he made on social media years ago, though he was later reinstated and will close out the Guardians trilogy once his work on the DC film is complete.

The only other high-profile project being developed by Gunn was a Starsky and Hutch reboot. However, that project was later passed on by Amazon Studios despite having previously been given a straight-to-series commitment.

Regardless of what the project may be, it appears Gunn's current script will continue his tradition of featuring foul-mouth characters. Hopefully, if the project is new, these characters can still earn the love of moviegoers as the crude but endearing Guardians of the Galaxy have. Also, yes, James, it's "asshat." No hyphen.

The Suicide Squad will be released in theaters on August 6, 2021.
