In an interview with VG247, James Bond 007: Blood Stone's Game Director Jeff Lewis confirmed that the game will not be getting a pre-release demo. Apparently, when asked about the possibility of fans getting to sample the game before it comes out next month, Lewis stated, “Unfortunately not.”

Of course this is sure to set the Interwebs ablaze with questions regarding the game’s quality, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet. The game, which features Daniel Craig reprising his role as the suave secret agent, is being developed by Bizarre Creations. Bizarre has a fairly solid portfolio behind them, with franchises like Geometry Wars, Blur and Project Gotham Racing. They were also the ones behind hidden gem The Club.

Bizaare Creations has a great knack for managing to find something new and fresh within standard genre fair. If any game franchise is desperately in need of a shot in the arm, it is the 007 license. Infused with Bizarre’s tendencies towards fast-paced and highly rewarding gameplay, this may be exactly what Mr. Bond needs.

When the review press isn’t given an advanced screening to a movie, it’s usually because it’s pretty bad or the studio doesn’t have faith in the film. Often times, gamers are quick to leap to this same conclusion when a game’s development gets a little hairy. However, we should all remember a little game called Red Dead Redemption that turned those assumptions completely on their ear.

Plenty of games don’t get demos before launch. It happens. So we really shouldn’t jump to any conclusions about a game we haven’t played. With the Bond film franchise currently in a messy state due to MGM’s financial woes Blood Stone could be the only original Bond action fans get for a while, on top of the GoldenEye remake. And with a solid developer like Bizarre behind the wheel, I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt before I get bent out of shape over the lack of an early demo.

Obviously with a hobby as expensive as video gaming, demos are important tools for consumers. And by all means, save your money until you’ve had a chance to play the game. Just don’t let this news dissuade you from what still could be a fun game.

Does this look like more trouble for the Bond franchise? Does this just mean that Bizarre was busy polishing the game and didn’t have time to set up a demo? Should we read into this at all?

Demo or not, James Bond 007: Blood Stone is still set to infiltrate the Xbox 360 and PS3 on November 2, 2010.
