It's official: the hit comedy sitcom It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is being renewed for a 15th season. The show will break a record with its 15th season by becoming the longest-running live action sitcom (by seasons).

The show, which recently announced it's planning a coronvirus-centered episode, has been making audiences laugh with a motley crew of bar owners in Philly since 2005. FX hasn't announced when Season 15 will air, but it should happen sometime in 2021. With the current effects of a global pandemic, many television production companies have put shooting on hold, and it remains to be seen how much the production of It's Always Sunny will be affected.

One of the show's creators, Rob McElhenney, said that the cast has no intention of stopping the show anytime soon. He said that the questions they ask themselves are "Do we still enjoy it, are we still having fun, are we still stretching ourselves creatively, and is the audience still there?" He added that the creative team feels that the show is still fulfilling all of these ideals, so they have no reason to stop or think about stopping. McElhenney also plays one of the leads, Mac, who has been praised for his character arc.

The show is a cult classic that is known for tackling real-life issues such as abortion, drug use, and the war in the Middle East with irreverent comedy. The show revolves around Dennis, Dee, Mac, Charlie, and Frank. Glenn Howerton and Charlie Day play Dennis and Charlie respectively and also act as creators with McElhenney. They share their co-creator's enthusiasm for the show's renewal and dedication to keep making the show fun for the cast, creators, and audience.
