This year has been quite a long and eventful, with highly praised titles such as It Takes Two coming out towards the start of it. Some fans are even claiming it’s their choice for the best game of 2021. Recently, Hazelight Studios, the developer behind the co-op title, has gone to Twitter to express its gratitude to the millions of fans of It Takes Two.

Over the years, Hazelight Studios has proven there is a place for co-op video games with titles such as A Way Out and It Takes Two. Both games offered couch co-op, which is a feature that has sadly been lacking from many recent titles. Hazelight Studios has, thankfully, noticed this hole in recent video games and has been doing its part to fill that gap. But how long will Hazelight do so?

While expressing its gratitude to fans of It Takes Two for having crossed another sales milestone, with 3 million units sold, Hazelight claims fans have helped send a clear message. The very well-received It Takes Two has garnered a large number of players in just under a year, easily surpassing how fast A Way Out sold 3 million copies. So of course, that message is that co-op video games are “here to stay.”

Hazelight Studios doesn’t directly say its next title or future titles will feature co-op, similar to previous games, but it’s probably a safe bet that the next game will. “Here to stay” can be interpreted as ‘co-op games are not going anywhere because Hazelight is more than likely to tackle them again. Couch co-op titles have become a rare genre of video games and with 3 million copies of It Takes Two sold in under a year, Hazelight sees that fans are interested in these types of games when they’re done right.

It Takes Two is a wonderfully relevant title that, similar to A Way Out, is only made better when playing alongside someone else. It Takes Two is a game that couples and even non-gamers could enjoy because It Takes Two wasn’t just a regular couch co-op platform. It went deeper into its mechanics adding a variety of different fun genres into the mix. It was well thought out and the passion behind the game shined through at each level.

It’s possible the inclusion of different genres in It Takes Two was Hazelight Studios’ testing the waters. Hazelight Studios is still fairly new and might eventually want to try dipping its feet into different genres of video games. With It Takes Two just having come out earlier this year, it’s more than likely an official confirmation won’t be given for quite some time but from what Josef Fares has stated, it looks to be even better than It Takes Two.

It Takes Two is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X
